What are the biggest tires I can get on a factory Explorer?

I have a 1994 Explorer and we bought it for my son as his first vehicle/project. he's very deserving and went out and got a job the day we bought the truck..lol..so me and my wife decided to get him some bigger tires so he can play around..

Right now it has some 235/75/R15, and I have no idea what those numbers mean and how they determine the size and inches from that, but I am pretty sure it would fit some 31's or so.

Any suggestions? Will it pull those and will they fit without rubbing? Also, what are some ways I could add a little power without emptying my pockets.

I have 31" on my 91 sport and have very minimal rubbing when I have the steering wheel cranked all the way left or right

Pretty sure 31's are the max you'd be able to do, but check the link above. It has good info.
