For those who are not familiar with Exchange, Microsoft Exchange is the most popular solution for corporate e-mail, contacts, and calendar as eloquently explained by 182RG above (thanks bud!). Exchange is used by the vast majority of corporations around the world. Unlike “regular” Outlook, which keeps the PST file on the user’s computer, Exchange keeps the PST file on the cloud. This allows the user’s devices to stay synchronized instantly. – Example: I add an appointment on my phone; it is instantaneously pushed to my office PC and my laptop.
Now, onto my post and poll.
Exchange creates pseudo-contacts to keep e-mail addressees available on all devices. These are not real contacts (they are not displayed in Outlook contacts), but MFT doesn’t know that. So, when you use MS Exchange as your contacts solution, MFT will download all those pseudo-contacts in addition to your real contacts. This causes you to end up with 2,000 contacts in MFT rather than, say, a more manageable 300 real contacts you may have on your phone.
You guys may recall
this post where I mentioned I got tired of Bluetooth issues and decided to unpair my iPhone. As soon as I did that, MFT started performing exemplary well. If you read the thread, Rebecca suggested I reverse-pair my phone and not set the phonebook to auto-download, which I did. With this solution, MFT continued to perform well for the most part.
I am now having performance issues with the new MFT. Here are a few quick examples of the problems I’m having:
- 25-35 seconds before I get music when I start the car. Dead silence before.
- If I make a voice-dialed call, MFT goes back to playing music for 5-7 seconds before the call starts ringing.
- If I press the green bar, the nav screen will be blank for 4-6 seconds and when the map starts rendering, it will take it another 5-7 seconds to fully render.
The above are very reminiscent of what I was experiencing with the original MFT – everything was slow like molasses. I am wondering if my issues have something to do with the system trying to manage 2,000 contacts from Exchange; hence, the poll.
I am trying to see if there is a connection between MS Exchange and MFT’s performance.
By the way, as of yesterday I unpaired my phone, did a master reset and reverse-paired the phone with auto-download phonebook set to off. There was an immediate performance improvement.
If any of you guys use Exchange and iPhone or Android, please vote. Let’s find out if there is a MT performance connection between the two.
