2nd Generation Aftermarket Head-Unit for steering wheel controls

Hi all

Been searching for an aftermarket deck for my truck, all threads I've found are either old, don't hold the answer or the URLs don't lead anywhere.

I'm looking for one that:

- I can continue to use the steering wheel controls
- runs my stock amp
- utilizes the 6 CD changer

Threads from a few years ago said that the cd changer won't work with an aftermarket unit, if this is the case still, not a big deal.

Solution:

I was able to use my steering wheel controls and stock amp with the deck I bought. It is made to accept factory steering wheel controls but needed to be paired with a wiring kit. I did not find a way to keep the 6 cd changer but with my phone instantly synced when I start the truck and a USB stick full of music, I am not missing it at all.

Deck: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-A7tNCFt...X-BT4000P.html - Super happy with this unit, blue-tooth works flawlessly and the sound is great. A great bonus is the numerous colours which can be set to the same green dash lighting, creating a completely stock look.

Steering Wheel adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Metra-ASWC-Uni.../dp/B0039H2W66 - The kit is quite easy to install and has been working perfectly. I put a piece of electrical tape to hold the 3.5mm plug on to the back of the HU

Sub Wiring: http://www.crutchfield.com/I-rFORc11...s.html?tp=2977 - I needed to purchase this separately due to the deck not coming with it from in store. If the Deck is purchased from Crutchfield I believe it comes altogether as one unit.

Mounting: http://www.scosche.com/car-audio/product/42 - bought from Walmart but will come with the Crutchfield Kit.

Took me a few hours to complete everything; removal, wiring, mounting, final install. I suggest getting the deck from Crutchfield because it comes with everything except the steering wheel adapter plus includes a detailed package with diagrams and could really benefit during the install.

Thanks to the members who gave input before I did this, I hope this helps other members :salute:

You need an adapter to continue to use your steering wheel controls. Most aftermarket decks will support these adapters through their wired remote input.

Awesome! Much appreciated

Many of the reviews mentioned that vehicle specific adaptors were added to their orders, which ones do you provide?

I also purchased the adaptor above for the steering wheel controls.

Good deal. The adapters are the kit to fit the radio in the dash and the wire harness that connect to the OEM harness so you don't have to cut it. Both will come free with that deck.

Maybe I should have worded that better, I purchased the deck in store at best buy, it came with only one pig tail for wiring. Can I purchase the adaptor kit to keep the OE harness separately ?

From what I've read on here it's Mach. I'll pull out my deck and check

Ya it's Mach

Bump. I update my first post

If you have the Mach system you would need this harness.

If you have the factory with just CD or Cassette.

and factory premium with CD and Cassette. There are two to choose from. one too keep the factory amp.

and then one to by-pass the amp in the rear 1/4 panel.

Vlad,
My truck is year 2000 Explorer Limited. I have buttons on the wheel and buttons on the central console in the rear passenger side, I have a sub in the trunk. My stereo is 2 dim, have FM, CD and Cassete Tape. But I don't know if it is Match System, I think isn't.
What 2 dim DVD with rear camera and adapter to wheel and console buttons you suggest ?
Thanks.
Best Regards.
Du.
