The dealer claims they couldn't reproduce the leak!!! It's apparent that they didn't "water" my explorer long enough or at the very least didn't get the water in the right spot for it to leak. It is frustrating having to "fight" for a rental car if I can borrow a family car.

Crystal,as soon as I pick up my car I will send you a PM

Great another issue with the ex, maybe the extra robots quality control is not so good, hire a humans!

I'd stick with robots... They work harder, and don't know what extortion is.

It's amazing what a little ingenuity can accomplish. I used a soaker hose to water my car today. Within than five minutes my Xtra Leaky Truck was leaking, water was dripping down the driver side third row seatbelt. Why is that Auto nation couldn't reproduce the same results when they had my car for two days? Maybe just maybe, its because I care about getting the problem resolved. I will be taking my car back to the dealership on Monday along with the soaker hose, video and pictures of the leak.

I saw your YouTube video. Exact same leak I was having. I hope they sort it out for you, unfortunately I had to give up. I'm blindly loyal to Ford, probably to a fault, so I bought another Ford vehicle. Just not another new style Explorer again. What really sucks is if I wasn't having the issues, I'd never have gotten rid of it. It just pushed me over the edge and made me follow through with getting another Mustang. Or my mistress as my girlfriend calls it. ;)

Seems to be only on 2011, anyone seen it on other years? I'll have to check mine next time it rains.

Edgieguy, I got very similar service at my dealership although my initial issue wasn't a leak and they don't even care that they give bad service. although the finance guy praises them like they are the best ever to sell warranties.

I have a 2012 Base Ex and so far no 3rd row leak. I bought it new in May 2012. Only water problem I have is the driver side door retaining water after long periods of rain, but then I discussed that in another thread.

Well, I "challenged" my self over the weekend to see how many times I could duplicate the leak. I was not able to see the leak with the Explorer parked on a level driveway but confident it was leaking. What I found is that I could see the leak 100% of the time when parked on a slope, slope towards the drive side. I shot a water hose at an angle from the passenger side rear door to the driver side rear lift gate corner. Within 30 seconds the Explorer would leak down the third row seatbelt.

I took back to Autonation this morning and replicated the leak for them. They belied it is leaking from the roof rack. They are letting it sit overnight to seal and will test it tomorrow morning. I pray this is the last visit for a leaky Ford!!

Mine just leaked for the 5th time (that I'm aware of.)My vehicle has been resealed and put back together( things were not put back together correctly either) this is absolutely ridiculous. I will continue to tell every current explorer owner and any future one about this defect and/ or poor workmanship. Also, ford rep if you see this post, I would like to reach someone in Chicago where this is occurring over and over again. I've followed the proper protocol and( i got some generic email with no info that i reqested) I would like a name or an email to reach someone. Thank you.

Thanks for the update, esw2005! Let us know when your Explorer comes home.

I have the same problem in the 3rd row. I took it in yesterday and they said I have to wait for the water specialist to come in and have a look at it. They also said that they have no appointment available for this month so they will have to call me to make an appointment for March. I just hope it doesn't rain that much until then.

Thank Crystal for escalating my case. I got a call from a Ford rep 2 times since I took it in to find out how's everything going with the water leak.

I'm glad to hear that things are progressing nicely for you, airdog007! Keep me in the loop. :)

It has rained once here and I have tested my car four times with no leaking! The bad news is I have new problems!!!!!! I gave to find the appropriate thread for my two new problems.

Our 2011 X will be going in for the 6th time for a water leak. Everyone else seems to have third row seating water leaks. We have water leaking in the floor of the second row passenger side. The carpet gets soaked and under the car there is always a puddle. The dealer has "fixed" it 5 times now. This has been going on since November and the car now has a lovely mildew smell. We have been understanding but I think after the fix of sealing the car three times doesn't work they don't know what to do to fix it. I think it may be time to persue a Lemon Law Lawyer.

Hi lexyb,

I want to look into your case and see how I can help. Send me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll get to work!

I can tell you that it's not limited to 2011 models. Just found that mine leaks today. Brand new 2 week old 2013 Sport. I don't remember choosing the water feature in the options list when I ordered it. Maybe that's why it took 13 weeks for delivery instead of 6 to 8 as was originally told. I'm compiling a disappointment thread already. Never thought I would have to do that for a new car. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382629
Just hope it doesn't get any longer :(

What a wonderful product that Ford has put out. And you would think that posting on this forum would give them a database to work with. Although there are numerous posts, They all seem to center around a dozen or so specific topics, not just a hundred isolated complaints. Instead of compiling this info, we are visiting our service departments time and time again with no resolution to the complaints. Some of these complaints have left these Ex's out of service for weeks and returned to the owners with the same problems as before.

I researched this forum for months before buying my explorer. If I had seen this thread before buying mine, I wouldn't have bought it. Don't know how I missed it.

Same here. It's a real kick in the nuts

Same here, it took me buying a soaker hose to fine the leak. I put the soaker hose on top of the vehicle. Once I saw that it was leaking down the third row seat belt, I "mapped" out my roof into section to help pinpoint where the leak is coming from. It didn't take long as I expected that it was leaking from the roof rail and or lift gate hinges. I took it to the dealer and it has been fixed ever since! crossing my fingers and hope to never by a ford again
