2004 explorer differential

I have an 04 explorer tjat has the dreadful differential howl. I have an opportunity to buy a differential from an 05 explorer with the advance track option. My question is...are the differentials still the same? Will I have any problem just swapping them?

Shouldn't be a problem as long as the gear ratio is the same.

Did it change from 04 to 05?

No, it's not that it's cause there's different gear ratio options to find out which it is look at the tag on the door here's a link to find the one that's on yours.

If your truck does not have advancetrac with rec, make sure the donor truck doesn't either. The advancetrac equipped trucks have the abs sensors in the hubs, and Tue non advancetrac trucks have the sensor in the diff.
