I recently changed my differential fluid in my 93 explorer. I used sae 40w90. Later I read in the Haynes guide that I should use 75w 140, how will this affect my drive ability? I was also reading I may need to add some kind of anti slip fluid. Is this true?

Too thin, you should change it and put in the proper viscosity. You only need limited-slip additive if your rear axle has a limited-slip differential.

That's what I was afraid of. There seems to be more humming and vibration. I checked the door codes and it is D4 which I think is Limited slip 3:73. How about that Lucas synthetic, I read some comments on Amazon that it has the additive already in. What would be the best fluid and additive to use? Thanks

Pretty much all synthetic gear oils do not need the additive (aka "friction modifier") as they already have it. As for me, I go with Mobil-1 or Redline.

Thanks for the info. I would guess it takes about 2-3 quarts?
