i want to do a budget 4 inch suspension lift on an ifs 2001 ford explorer 2 door sport. i was planning on doing a torsion key lift 2 inches and doing a 2 inch torsion twist. i was told that going over 2 inches with a torsion lift will put strain on the cv joints. does anyone know any places to get upgraded cv joints or cv axles for this vehicle from, any nay sayers, or any other methods that will help me not spend a fortune. If all else fail im gonna call superlifts, and order the 4 inch lift just for the front bc im doing an soa in the back, and all they give you are add a leafs. what really boils my brain is why superlifts doesnt put pricing on their website. any suggestions are greatly appreciated thanks all

well...if you want 4 inches +....then you need superlift.

in diff drop brackets and lower control arm brackets and get 4 inches,
plus crank the bars 2 to 3 inches, for a 6 to 7 in total (like what I am doing)

torsion keys are a scam...which IS MUCH debated subject here. but.....
I have just about 3in on my mounty (from a factory tt) with superlift
brackets on the way...

to do the front superlift, you will need 9637 (knuckles) and
9633 (front brackets). which cost me a total of $840 shipped.
I declined sway bar links, shocks, ect.. to get it that cheap.
but I have OTHER means....haha

heres what my mounty looks like as of NOW.. (without superlift).
only tt, shackles, and double aal

hope this helps

:salute:

What were your "other means" for the sway bar links and such

What were your "other means" for the sway bar links and such

doesn't matter, moral of the story is, you don't need the whole kit

ive got 4" on mine. all it TT. the trick is remembering to adjust everything else along with your TT lift. ive taken a lot off and put a lot on my IFS so im not sure what all you have on yours but adjust all the steering components you can think of to reduce the angularity of the axle. also if you ever take it to a shop to get something fixed, make sure they either dont touch your adjustments or re adjust after the service.

im thinking about going a different direction in my lift kit. I know the ranger and explorer are identical. I was told the superlift kit is junk. If i can get a rough country or skyjacker kit for a ranger and put it on mine, that would be ideal. Its better than piecing stuff because everything will be included. mine like all 4wd explorer 2 doors has the torsion bar suspension. i thinks its the 98-00 rangers that have the same suspension. any thoughts?

yes.....and superlift is the ONLY maker of these lifts...for our year trucks.

trailmaster did years ago, but stopped making lifts for explorer.

:salute:

so the ranger would not have a kit other than superlift for 98-00 as well?

I think this is complete bullshit....

and just to give you the benefit of the doubt....???

what exactly are the "adjustments" that you have made...????

:salute:

haha....look man.....the ONLY WAY to get 4in+ suspension lift up front
would be SUPERLIFT........PERIOD!!!

im sittin pretty high....46in front ground to fender in front
and 47.5in in the rear, with the superlift, tt, double add a leaf
and SOA. on 35s.........the ranger kit WILL NOT WORK....

good luck

re-shaped lower arm, longer torsion bolts, longer rotated TB keys, lowered upper arm, adjustable ball joints, longer shocks. I've been a payed off-road recovery tech / mechanic over 4 years and have been racing off-road for 9. before you feel like calling bullshit on me and my rig, think outside the box and make sure that it is actually impossible to perform my modifications.

..Before it gets heated up in here, pictures might save a number of post..

..I would like to (as well as many others I'm sure) see pictures of all modified vehicles so we can learn more of what obstacles you overcame to get to where your vehicle is at and how you got to it's current condition..:biggthump

that's the only way to properly get the 4 inch lift,
Superlift kit,,
if you THINK YOU GOT 4 INCHES WITH A TT ,, you suspension was sagged out,, or the bolts for the bars were set low,, cause 4 inches on a tt would mean the lower arm would be a such an extreme angle that it would eat cv axles for breakfast, every day,,
ask me how i know ???

how exactly do you "reshape" a lower control arm...???lol

I would love to see pics of an "ADJUSTABLE BALL JOINT"
on our trucks....ive never herd of that.

and how does one go about "lowering" ones upper control arm...???

can we see some pics please....????

(hint, hint) this is me giving benefit of the doubt.

For the original question, just so there is no confusion, this...

ive got 4" on mine. all it TT.

and this...

re-shaped lower arm, longer torsion bolts, longer rotated TB keys, lowered upper arm, adjustable ball joints, longer shocks.

are not the same thing at all.

and if you rotated the keys, than longer bolts are not needed ,,

I have my 3 inch body lift on now. I notice when I make hard turns the inner part of the tire (33s) hits the sway bar. Its definitely a problem when I have the 4 wheel drive on when I'm driving in the snow to get in the parking lot at the train station for school. It tries to ride up on the sway bar. It makes unnecessary noise. Is there a sway bar maybe 2 inches to 4 inches shorter in length that I could put on so that my tires don't rub. I'm opposed to sway bar removal because its my daily and I go through two roundabouts back to back to and from school and sometimes I like to go through rather fast :D. any ideas?

id get some wheel spacers....its pretty much the norm. when running
a larger tire on a factory wheel.
