What is this?

For the life of me, I can't figure out what's this small plastic box under my mirror is or what it does. It has a small button and 4 prong plug goes to it. It looks like it belongs under the mirror but it doesn't clip in.

Car is 2006 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer v6 4x4.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but when disconnected, my mirror dimmed and lights turned on auto when dark.

It will clip onto the mirror mount on the windshield. If I remember correctly, it has a tab of some sort on one end that you put in place then just push hard enough on the other end and it will snap into place. Mine was loose and it didn't seem like it would snap on, but I kept messing with it and figured it out.
