Here are some pics of the mods I have done -

1. Changed out blue ford logo for black on front and back - Love this look

2. Replaced the amber back turn signal bulbs for Red LED - Love this as well

3. Put on shark fin antenna

Other mods I am considering right now - Tinted front windows - only thing holding me up is that my family is in Iowa and we go back there for gatherings and their tinting law is much more strict than MO.

Also thinking about HIDs but not sure how hard that is. I did some easy mods that make this look a lot better and I think HIDs would be great as well but I have never done this type of thing before.

Here are the pics!

Your Tint laws are state specific. No cop from another state can issue you a ticket for violation of their tint law. As long as your tint is legal in your state where your car is registered then you are fine.

I like your explorer and your Iowa Hawkeyes swag!

did you do the black emblem overlays or full replacement? where did you get them?

I was reading on another forum that the Iowa law actually is different and does not matter which state you are from. I will have to look into it more but I might just say screw it and chance it. I like the look of the tint too much!

I need to get some new Iowa plate holders...those bad boys are old and faded!

As for the ford logos I bought this one for the front
I got the front one off and then stuck this on one.

I got this one for the back (7 inch)
For the back I used a hairdryer and got the glue loose and then used a flat head screw driver and pliers to peel it off. Then I cleaned off the glue and stuck the new one on. Neither was that hard and there is another thread around that talks about it. It looks so much better.

Also, cops do stuff they're not supposed to do all the time and get away with it. Once the ticket is written, good luck getting off without spending $10000. (that being said, I'm going to tint mine anyway, just saying. I kind of hate when people say, "Cops can't do _____" cuz they do what they want.

OP - https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/MSHPWeb/Publications/Brochures/documents/SHP-510b.pdf

I have 20% on mine and love it because it matches the back really well. I'll keep my eye out for you on the road :)

Edit: Just noticed the Hawkeye plates! Wife is from Iowa (Fort Dodge) and I've done RAGBRAI 5 times!

Nice, I will probably go through with it, might wait until after the holidays since I will be back in Iowa twice and then I do not have to worry about a ticket until next summer when I go back ha ha!

And Go hawks! I am from Waterloo - straight east of Ford Dodge. I have not done Ragbrai but have friends and family who have done it a ton. Someday I will do it but if I am taking a week away from work there are other ways I like to spend my time ha ha!

Do the HID upgrade you will love the look and improved lighting.

Just buy a good kit with high quality ballasts.

Several of us here bought the Diode Dynamics HID kit 4300K with Hylux Premium ballasts. I had to buy the DRL modules as mine has DRL. Installed in about an hour and never had an issue. Installation is plug and play, no cutting wires.

My wife's dad is from Fort Dodge and that's where all his family lives and wife's mother is from Waterloo and that's where all her family is. Plan to head up there soon to visit as my wife's cousin in Waterloo has an outdoor RC track at his house :D

How do you like the Sport? I've been getting very tempted to pick one up come Spring but can't make up my mind.

As the son of a lawyer cops do not do what they want. the problem is the average individual doesn't know his rights and gets pushed around.

Tint is a motor vehicle offense and not a criminal offense. Which is a big difference.

I know too many cops to believe they are all jerks.

As someone who's been in trouble w The law before, they absolutely do what they want. Once in a while they don't get away with it and it makes people feel all comfy. If a cop wants to #### your life up, they can. Best to stay off their radar.

Sorry you have had bad experiences man. I don't really care to have an argument over law enforcement. I am extremely grateful for what they do and what they have to deal with.

I love the sport - came from an 08 tribute. This ride is so much smoother and I LOVE the feel of this thing. Technology is pretty good as well. Have fun in Iowa - now that the corn is gone not much to exciting to look at when driving ha ha!

Thanks for the info - That is the one I would buy as well if I went with it. I am sure I will...just need to pull the trigger - I do not use my fog lights much but did you replace those? I would imagine it looks sort of weird with HIDs and stock fog lights.

Never use the fogs so I wont change them from stock.....plus by summer I will be ordering my 16 Sport so that will mean everything is LED.

I'll be the first to admit, usually you have to do at least one thing wrong for any cop to notice you. Sure we could go back and forth over pros and cons...
Let's just say when it comes to this subject I'm more half empty and you're half full. I don't wanna argue either, and create a bad vibe.

I just got my LED Fogs in from Diode Dynamics today, 10mins later they were installed. I will admit reading the sticky thread saved me alot of time.
I bought them here:
6000k XP80

http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/led-bulbs/listed-by-vehicle/ford/explorer/2011-2013-ford-explorer-fog-light-leds

I installed Retrofit Source 5Five 6000K HIDs, with the Canbus option. Amazing lights and I was a diehard DDM customer, not after these. I got them here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems/morimoto-elite-hid-system-9005.html#.VFQ-tsma-cY

Here is a daytime pic I didnt get to a night pic. Pull the trigger you will not be disappointed! I am glad I read about these here on the forum.

Hey all. New to the forum. Getting out of a 2016 GMC Acadia Denali. Just ordered a 2017 Explorer Platinum in Magnetic Metallic today. Interested in seeing some photos if anyone has replaced the "blue oval" that is on the hood and liftgate with a "black oval." Also, planning on installing my ValentineOne radar deterctor using a Blendmount and Stealthcord for power. Would love to see some photos of any rear view mirror mounted installations and also find out some details of how anyone tapped into the accessory power line off the ignition switch.

Thank in advance.

Welcome to the Forum Ted.
One of the most useful items is the 'Search' feature in the upper right corner. You thread has been merged with this one and there are others like it. There are also threads/post on installing radar detectors and finding power sources.

Any further posts on the 'detector' should be posted in one of those threads so that the topic of this one stays true to forum.

Every state uses their own radars, I am still debating if getting a Valenine 1 or the latest Escort one.

Remember most use Laser now, Radar is very old school, hardly used anymore.
