transfer case oil XL-12?

I am changing the fluid in 2008 Explorer transfer case. In the manual it calls for XL-12 fluid.. All the threads I read and some of the oil sites like Amsoil call for transfluid MerconV. The earlier AWD versions also call for transfulid.. Anyone had experience with this.. Fluid is hard to come by at the dealer
