Apps for MFT. What apps?

Have been looking for someone to produce a quality aftermarket HUD since I got the car. My wife's Camaro makes it so nice, but nothing comparative is out for aftermarket applications .. I second a Ford factory HUD implementation!

I third it, my wife's Acadia Denali HUD is very well executed. I had no idea the navigation info transferred up there until just recently. I thought it was speed and media source only.

The Garmin HUD is the only one I've seen that appears to integrate phone and Nav and other features, seems good for the price compared to the others on Amazon anyway.

You can get spoiled once you have one for awhile. At first I thought it was annoying but now come to rely on it. On the BMW I'm driving you can select what can get displayed and it only has it there when you need it, such as an incoming/outgoing phone call or your are navigating, etc. One handy feature on the BMW is that the front camera reads speed limit signs and displays it next to my current speed. The display is in color and also changes and dims as night to keep it unobtrusive. Ford uses HUD for the flashing red LED's for collision avoidance, so they must see the value of it and thinking about it. Hopefully they'll go for it, other cars are going that direction and I noticed Mercedes highlighted their system on a recent TV commercial.

I still can't believe someone hasn't hacked MyFord Touch and made it easy for people to make changes and add Apps.

Let's see. Where to start?

First, Ford has announced a very simple upgrade path to Applink. Just buy a new vehicle with Sync 3 and cross your fingers that Applink gets added.

http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/

At this point, we are better off focusing on an aftermarket system with Android Auto or CarPlay. Ford will probably focus on using encrypted SoC's (system on a chip) that are difficult to crack.

Ford has also repeatedly stated that they do not care for Android Auto or CarPlay, so we will probably never receive that with a Ford System.

Also wanted to point out (probably deserves it's own thread if it doesn't have one yet). Send to Car no longer works and the developer has given up trying to fix it. For anyone that bought the $4 version, they are able to get refunds.

SYNC Applink is already part of the Sync 3 system.

Hi gatzdon,

I'd like to jump in a clear up a few things. Like Peter stated, SYNC 3 does have AppLink, and we've just released an update for our Gen 1 SYNC systems that added AppLink. We're also working to integrate CarPlay and Android Auto in the future. The Send to Car app is not a Ford application, but if you have a subscription to SYNC Services, you can use our app called SYNC Destinations or MapQuest. Ford more information, check out these links:

I hope that helps!

Just curious, have you actually used the Sync Destinations App. I'm guessing that it locks out the passengers from using it because they might distract the driver when they throw their phone. Even when I'm stationary, I can't use Sync Destinations to send an address because I can't find the address I'm looking for.

I have a 2012 Ford Explorer Limited with My Ford Touch and a 2013 Focus Titanium. The only upgrade path for me is to buy another vehicle. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a suitable aftermarket replacement yet for the MFT.

I do have an active Sync Services Subscription. I also have two new Ford Vehicles with MFT, but can only use 1 phone with either of them. Since I have it setup with my phone number, my wife can't use Sync to send addresses to either car. That doesn't matter much anymore since the Send to Car app was the only practical way to get an address into the car through sync services.

Ford never stated they do not care about CarPlay or Android Auto, in fact they've been listed as an apple CarPlay partner for some time now.

see https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/
Near the bottom there is a section "CarPlay will be available on models from these committed partners."

Only 1 phone at a time can be paired to MFT (same for others using UConnect, CUE and others as well.)

Both phones could be paired with MFT individually, and after if either person uses the car, that phone will sync up.

But if you both get in the car and have both your phones with BT active, the primary phone that was paired & also set up in your Ford Owner/SyncMyRide acct, will be the one to
pair up with MFT, and not the 2nd phone.

On a long drive if you really wanted to, you could switch back and forth by turning BT off on 1 then turn it on the 2nd, & connect the phone via MFT
buttons "Connect" in Phone quadrant.

I use SYNC Destinations a lot, it's always worked for me. I also have a Focus and an Explorer. My phone and sync services account is linked to the Focus and my wife's phone and her sync services account is linked to the Explorer. You need to have separate accounts with separate phone numbers.

I also have a 98 Escort and a 2000 Explorer, they just don't have sync. If I were to replace those with newer ford vehicles, do I need to create 2 more sync accounts.

Even creating 2 accounts now creates a negative experience for the Ford Garage (or whatever they call it now) where you can see all your manuals, notices, etc... for all your vehicles in one place.

You can be content with creating multiple accounts, but it's very short sighted of Ford to require it if they want the whole family driving Ford vehicles.

I'm sorry you feel this way, gatzdon. Please don't hesitate to get your voice heard by posting this on our Ford Social page at Social.Ford.com. Our product engineers check for ideas to implement in the future. You never know, if they see and like it, it may become an option in the future to have both numbers on the account active at the same time.

Will Android Auto be an update for existing 2015 Ford Explorers or only for newer models?

Thanks,
Dave

Several years ago I asked for an example of anything posted on the Ford Social page that has made it into production.

I'm hoping for that example any day now...........

Ford Social is a joke...lots of good suggestions from CONSUMERS that just get ignored...once I even suggested that a digital speedo be added to normal line of Taurus vehicles and it got deleted as a COMPLAINT, WTF....seriously since when is suggesting something many people would like to see a complaint???

Hi Dave,

I can't speculate on that yet, but we'll make more announcements at a later date on Media.Ford.com.

Hey Sgt,

One suggestion that was implemented was defaulting to the last audio source for our Gen 1 SYNC systems. :)

Rebecca

Thanks Rebecca

Mine must not be working properly because always when I disconnect my iPhone 6 from the media center USB port using a USB-Lightning cable my system goes back to AM radio instead of defaulting to the last audio source used like Sirius.
