Power Steering pump spline

1995 Ford Explorer XLT 350K miles. I removed my serpentine belt to check the pulleys. The P/S pump pulley moved forward and backward about one sixteenth to 1/32 of an inch. The pulley is securely on the spline (shaft). I looked behind the pulley and moved it. It is the spline that is moving. Is this normal? Does it reveal a worn seal inside the pump? Can I live with it?

You don't mention the reason for checking the pulleys but I would make the assumption that you are chasing some noise as I have done recently. Replacing the pump did not accomplish anything. I would suggest that if it is not leaking and the steering effort is normal to just leave it alone.
