2011 ex sony sound system vocals sound muffled

I have a 2011 ex limited w/ the sony sound system. For some reason vocals have been sounding really muffled. If I play with the balance/fade and push everything towards the way front of the car, it sounds horrible. I have upgraded the front driver/passenger door speakers and tweeters in the past. Do you think it could be the front center dash speaker? Could it be something else? I distinctly remember HD radio sounding amazing as soon as the HD reception kicked in but now it doesn't sound that much better than regular FM.

Check the sound settings in the Sony system. The focal point of the sound (balance) can be moved forward/aft as well as left/right. It may be the setting are too much in the front speakers.

I've heard this sometimes if I have surround sound active on some music. Switching to stereo greatly improved the vocals.
