This is very pic heavy. Let me know what you guys think. The system sounds phenomenal and sub looks great! Thought some of you guys might want to see what could be done if you were interested in upgrading the sound system from the Sony premium speakers.

I'll try to show these in order as best as possible. :)

dammm, thats alot of work. Your doing that yourself?

should post a video when your done. so we can hear how it sounds

Yes, it is a lot of work and while I am technically inclined, this is a little out of my league. I'm having the work done at my local audio shop.

Michael

Thats an amazing mod, I wish I had your skills, but thats way over my head.

I would have busted all the clips on the first piece of trim I removed.

would you consider making another sub box?

There's a lot of processing equipment in there as well...Can you post a spec sheet of everything that was used?

I'll do the best I can. Below is all the equipment I used to replace the Sony Speakers and Amp.

Speakers

Front speakers (Door and tweeter) - Focal 165V30 Polyglass 30th Anniversay Limited Edition

Rear Doors - Focal PC165 6.5 Coaxial Kit

Sub Woofer - JL Audio 10w6v3d-4

Center (dash) and Third row speakers - Focal 4' IC100 coaxial speakers

Amps

JL Audio 900/5 - Powers the 4 doors and sub

JL Audio XD400/4 - Powers the center and 3rd row speakers

OEM Integration

Audio Control - LC8i

Audio Control - LC2i

Other items - 2 Dynamat Bulk packs and Coastaletech Sync MyfordTouch lockpick.

I hope this helps

Guh, there's $400 in signal processors alone there. the 900/5 is a nice amp! How did they tune all of that hardware? You have multiple amps with varying levels for each channel, I guess its tuned by ear? I don't doubt is sounds good though. I have a JL 12w6 and a JL 600.1 that I would like to put into mine, but I think I would use a LC2i like you have to make it sound better. The AccuBASS really helps restoring the full bass sweep that OEM's take out to keep owners from blowing up all the speakers. It was a big issue with my old TL too and a lot of guys used this kind of product or something like a MS8 by JBL to fix. Sweet build for sure.

Thanks, the system does sound great! I couldn't be happier. But to answer some of your questions yes, they did tune it by ear and evidently they did a stellar job at it. :)

The LC2i has helped with the bass and sometimes I can't believe that I only have 10' sub back there, although the 10w6 is no slouch.

Michael

yeah, the LC2i was smart to add. and yes, the w6 with some power behind it is a pretty nasty sub.

Need Suggestion

Is that sounds good to have slim underseat subwoofer?
Does it has good bass sound?
As I have leased xpl might be they will not allow me to rip off xplr for subwoffer installation.

Thanks.

that looks really fancy. I once installed a "free air" (no box/enclosure) sub since I was lazy and it rattled all the body panels, from now on making a box or buying a premade one is the best way.

This is an old thread but it is some nice work!

Keeping the factory head-unit is always a challenge and these cars can use more bass.. here's a quick picture of my subs

I went with Morels and a sound processor w/remote

Great upgrade no space lost and sub fit perfect in factory space.

Nice work. Now let's just hope that you don't have the infamous water leak where it pools in the spare tire well.;) I'm guessing the spare was removed?

Peter

Water leak? This is a new one for me! (I better learn how to use the search function) I guess it could be a problem but the sub box is made out of fiberglass with only the top surface made out of MDF.

The complete build is posted here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=444695

I used the Morel Hybrid 6 inch components in my Honda Pilot build and they are great speakers.

can we cover subs

Hi,
is that possible to cover subs if want to put some luggage..so that weight should not damage it?

I travel quite a bit and have a lot of demo equipment, I just fold the 3rd row seat down and load up. When the 3rd row seat is folded down it does not touch the subs, so they are protected.
