Best options for storing music in my 2016 Sport?

I don't always want to hook up my iPhone to our Ex Sport, so I'm wondering if there's some way to permanently store music in the car without using my phone. Our other car (Mercedes) has 3 options: SD card for music, onboard hard drive, or USB port. It appears that the Explorer's nav SD port won't do this if you want to keep nav. So is there some other way?

Sure I can waste time experimenting, but it seems easier to ask the experts here first.

On my 16 Sport I just use a 64 gig USB thumb drive with over 1000 songs.

There are some 128gb sandisk usb drives on amazon for about 30, I use one of those and have about 19k songs so far. Works like a charm and they are very tiny so doesn't affect use of the compartment either.
