I was wanting to get bigger tires but wanted to decrease the size of the rim. Does anyone know if a 15" rim will fit on a 2000 explorer xlt? Thanks

15" should fit fine. I have two 2000 Mountaineers that came with 15" rims the and use the same brake pads as my 16" wheel Explorers.

I know my 99 had 15 inch wheels, and I've seen 2000s with 15s, my understanding the XLS came with them.

I'm running 15" by 8.5" wide on mine. I prefer the old standard size tires like the 33x12.50xr15 I have. The black steel wheels were bought from 4wheelparts.com I think. You should look up the stock backspacing and add an inch or more even. I don't remember what it was for my truck, but I know I added an inch to it plus the having wider wheels and my tires are still inside the wheel wells. Not sure why they inset them so much. I looks stupid if you ask me.
