Found some info here that a bw4406 from f150 97-03 can be used for a swap into the explorer/mountaineer. I found a 04 f150 (same body style as 97-03) with the same bw4406 manual transfer case. Can i use it? Or does it need to be 97-03? Thanks in advance.

if its a 4406 then yes but depending on the year of your explorer / mountaineer you may need the earlier version with the speedo in the case , i think 98 and up used the abs sensor on the rear in which case the newer 4406 would be fine

My mountaineer is 2001. I'll go ahead and buy it then ill post an update. I will get the front driveshaft from the same truck

What engine is in the donor truck?

Only the driveshaft from a 4.6 equipped truck will work.

Is the shift linkage still there?

If so, grab it.

Isin't their a rule that the front and rear driveshaft have to be from different engines in different trucks ? I have herd of some people using expedition shafts and F150 transfer case.I really need a dam list.

4.6 front shaft and 5.4 rear shaft

Look in mountaineer greens heading under tcase swap.

How was the power increase in 2wd mode from Full time awd ?

I Didn't notice any, the front axle is live so all the same parts are moving because of the wheels so it's still causing resistance.
