2016-17 Sport / Platinum Exhaust Tips

Fyi, just replaced my 2016 Explorer Sport exhaust with the Livernois Corsa (love it BTW).
I had to remove the square exhaust trim pieces, and no longer need them.
Contact me if you want them...

I also purchased the Livernois cat back system and have the 2016 explorer sport. Can you tell me how to remove the trim pieces so I can use the new exhaust tips?

Thanks

Hmm, I wonder if it's going to be possible to retrofit older explorers with the new 2018 quadpipes?

Will take close-up photos tonight, but they come off with a simple Philips bit (I used a socket with philips bit, to get 90-degree access). Then I removed the ENTIRE bracket that holds the chrome piece, so you dont see a bunch of nuts missing bolts from underneath. Photos of parts off the vehicle coming, you'll see...

You remove the 2 screws at 9:00 & 3:00, to remove the chrome trim ring.

Here are the screw types:

I removed the entire bracket (not to see the bracket and nuts). There are a total of 5 screws per bracket, one screw that is a bit more hidden, but you will notice when you get the easy ones to see out first.

Apparently the 2016 and 2017 exhaust trim pieces aren't exactly the same. One of the mounting brackets is a little different. I bought the ones above from drudis and got the black powder coated and just tried installing them but couldn't.

If you look at the first pic of my stock piece, the mounting bracket at the bottom of the pic goes straight out. The one on the black 2016 piece comes out, bends 90 degrees and then 90 degrees again.

Not sure why they changed that design from 2016 to 2017 but just want to make everyone aware. Guess I'll put the black ones up for sale.

Sorry it didnt fit, I had no idea.
But since its only a bracket difference... couldnt you bend/reshape the tab to make it fit?

I think if I straightened out that tab, it'll end up being longer than mine.

The only chrome on the back of my 2016 Sport (I believe the only exterior chrome on it) are the 2 exhaust trim outlets, which I would prefer to change out. I'm trying to figure out my options on these.
I guess that I could just remove them, but I believe that it does look better than having just the 2 tailpipes there. Someone mentioned painting them black, but I wonder of the durability of black paint sprayed on the chrome exhaust trim outlets.
I've heard of "black chrome". Are any replacement exhaust trim outlets available in "black chrome?
Thanks
Mark

You can always buy the ones I just got powdercoated and replace yours?

I'm a little confused. Are these for a 2016 or a 2017?
You mentioned that they didn't fit. Were you trying to put them on a 2016 or a 2017?

if it was me, I would have hit the compleat cat back with VHT semi gloss back before the install. The way it is those muffs are sticking out like a sore thumb.

From reading his post it was mentioned those black ones would not fit his 2017 so he believes they were for a 2016 model.

Those black ones ARE from a 2016. I bought them from member drudis and he removed them from his 2016. They didn't fit on my 2017.

Anyone have any pics with the black tips on their explorer?

Hey guys does anyone still have they’re stock 16 rear valances? I backed into something and need to replace the silver and black pieces. I have a 16 limited non/tow. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi All, I’m new here. Just bought a 2016 Limited. I was hoping there is a way to change the exhaust tips on the back to the rectangular ones that you see on some of the Sports I guess? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them on some of the Limited as well. Can I buy a brand new bumper to get that done or is there a way to modify it and change out the small circular ones. I’m not car savy at all, so please explain in an elementary style, I just know I like the look better. Thanks all in advance. Cheers!
