My '07 Limited V8 'Garage Thread'

When you did your custom exhaust, what did you use as far as the front pipe that connects to the flange. will a pipe from a 02-05 v8 work with the 06-10 v8? Mine is starting to get loud at the flange pipe & I'm looking into different options.
Thanks.

They used the pipe and flange from the stock setup and just cut the muffler off and then welded on the new one.

I did a transmission fluid 'exchange' this morning at work...
6wQ4x3.jpg

I like this machine better than the one you hook the shop air to...this one uses the transmission's own pump to pump out the old fluid while the machine puts the fresh fluid back in. We put a case of LV plus a BG transmission conditioner in the machine. Once the trans got to operating temp, you could see the little 'flow wheel' start to spin really fast letting you know that it's working.

I wasn't having any issues or anything, I just wanted to get all fresh fluid in there since the last time I just dropped the pan and refilled it. I'm at 126k and I didn't know when or if it's been done before.
I could definitely tell a difference between driving it to work and driving it home. It wasn't a huge difference, but you could tell something was done.

I still need to do a drain plug pan and I will change the filter when I do that.

I bought (leased) a 2018 F150 on Saturday!

I was looking for a 2009-2014 body style for a few months, but there were no decent ones in my area. So I was traveling all over on Saturdays to go look at them, and the ones I found either had high mileage, or cab corners, or just plain didn’t fit in our budget.

Then my general manager (who I’ve discussed this whole truck thing with multiple times) texts me pictures of the 2018 above while I’m sitting at the desk of a salesman in NY about to sign on the dotted line, that he’s 99% sure he can get a super crew to go through at my budget payment of $300 or less.
I wish he told me that before I drove all the way out to NY!...anyway, long story short...I left the dealer in NY and came back to my work and he already had it here from our other store!

I would have liked a V8 and a 6.5ft bed with a floor shifter...but it’s brand new so I really can’t complain. And there’s no way I’m getting all that for $300 a month or less!
I haven’t had a brand new vehicle in a long time, so I’m happy.

I still have the Explorer that I started this thread with...my wife will drive it now as we traded in her 2009 for the truck.
I’ll be doing a lot of work on the Explorer pretty soon...wheel bearings, shocks and struts, etc...and I have to put the exhaust back to stock for her.

Great trucks, Curious why you wanted the V8? I use to subscribe to "no replacement for displacement" until I've driven a couple new EcoBoost vehicles. The 3.5L they put in the F150 absolutely screams. Nice looking truck, enjoy it.

Thanks man!

It does go pretty good, and will work for what I need it to do. I’m not towing or hauling...just working around my house more, a truck will come in handy.

I only want the v8 because I love the sound...my truck looks tough (and is Built Ford Tough)...but doesn’t make any noise. haha

We had a unseasonably warm day today, so I changed the running boards/side steps on my (wife’s) Explorer. She didn’t like the ones that came on it from the factory...remember the ones I re-painted?...

(can’t wait to put those summer wheels back on)

...and since it’s pretty much her vehicle now, I wanted to make sure she’s happy with it...since I’m driving a brand new F-150!

...with the ‘new’ factory running board...

I still have a bunch of parts to swap on this vehicle...stay tuned!

I changed the exhaust back to stock this past Saturday...but I got to the shop late (no power at my house from the storm) so I didn’t have time to take pics.

I used a kit from RockAuto that had everything from the Y pipe back...

18182EF4-CD89-4AAB-B10C-C399A3F12769.jpeg

...for $179 plus shipping it was still cheaper than the NAPA we use at work!

I had to improvise a couple hangers that were cut off when the custom exhaust was done, no biggie...then a little VHT high heat black and it’s good to go! Nice and quiet for the wife.

How easy was it to swap out the running boards? My 2006 XLT didn't come with them, and the aftermarket offering isn't quite the way I'm wanting to go.

It's not hard at all to do the running boards, all the holes are in the body where they need to be. The boards I used have 3 mounts instead of just 2 on the ones I took off.
If you have rear a/c, getting the brackets in place on the passenger side is kind of a pain but doable.

No A/C...basic XLT. I need to figure out which way I'm going with running boards. I may just wind up going Nerf style, out of ease, since the price for all of them are close to the same.

Yes it does...and I think I have an extra set of 4 band style sensors and mounting kits for sale if you’re interested.

Appreciate the offer, but I was hoping that it didn't have TPMS.

I'm trying to track down the module that controls it, and if you didn't have it, your VIN might have been able to get me the As built data I needed.

Maybe I’m just missing what you’re saying...if my vehicle didn’t have it, why would it have a module that controls it?

There's a Ford website where you can punch in your VIN and it'll give you a list of the modules that were programmed into your vehicle from factory.
If your vehicle didn't have TPMS, and mine does, we could compare the 2 lists and see which memory line is missing or altered.

I'll probably just have to start modifying random entries until I (hopefully) find it, but I wanted to avoid that if possible.

Thanks anyway. I think only some overseas Explorers came with TPMS disable from factory.

I see...if you remember a few pages back in this thread one of the guys posted some links to Explorers in Japan.

I ran the VIN on this 2007 ...says 'Less Tire Inflation Monitor'...

The is all the As-Built data that was listed...

Wow, this might work. Thanks .
I'll give it a shot tomorrow

Edit: You are the man! It was GEM module, entry 726-01-01. Changed it to 0000 0000 2F and no more TPMS warnings. I'm on aftermarket wheels now, but my stock/winters had 2 faulty sensors and I was looking at $300+ to replace them, just to stop hearing that beep.

Edit2: Playing around with it a bit more, I noticed that my keyless entry no longer works after I changed 726-01-01. I'm having a hard time finding any sort of resource for modifying our gen of Ex, compared the Gen5, but I'm still hopeful I can get this figured out.

Cool...glad I could help!

I also noticed that there isn’t much (if any) FORScan info for the 4th gen Explorers. I did use the ‘easy method’ to turn on the DRLs for my wife in the ‘07.
Maybe check with Livnitup over on the F150forum.com?

Well...ladies (if any) and gentlemen...my wife and I traded in the 2007 this thread was based on for a 2012 Limited with about 55k less miles last night. The ‘07 was nice, but starting to show it’s age, and I wanted her to have a new(er) vehicle...plus the general manager at my work gave us a killer deal on the ‘12.
We finally worked our way up to the (somewhat) current body style. We have had every generation Explorer except the 1st one.

She deserves it and she loves it...and that’s all that really matters.

This is when I brought it home a couple weeks ago for her to check it out.

Dark Blue Pearl is a really nice color.

My man Brian still touching it up outside!
