Has anyone thought of putting an ecoboost from a new mustang in a first gen? Taking about bad!

I doubt you can. At least not without spending a ton of $. The newer engines are sensor & electronic heavy. I'm no expert though...

Would be killer if you could find a totaled mustang

Oh yeah, I always think about stuff like that. You know the old cliche... anything's possible with enough money and time. Probably would take some major league engine bay mods to get it to fit. We're kind of narrow up front and our TTB gets in the way.

Those EcoBoosts in the new Explorer Sports are twin turbo V6's, right?
Are they putting that powerplant into the Mustangs now?

The one they’re using in the Mustangs is the Ecoboost 2.3 liter inline four. It’s the same one they put in the Focus RS just mounted longitudinaly. They’re fun little engines. I think it’d be pretty cool to put one in an Explorer. It’d be a lot more power than the 4.0 that’s for sure.

The Explorers are the 3.5L twin turbo V6. Same basic Ecoboost as they put in the F150s. But it looks like the tuning drops the torque in the Explorer version substantially from the F150.

Certainly would be a fun idea. You might be hard pressed to be able to use the official Ford ECU without all the various supporting bits. I know the service manual for my F150 is absolutely ridiculous with how many different bits the ECU is communicating with. Though with a standalone fuel management system, I doubt it's much more difficult than any other engine.

You can actually get the 2.0 I4 Ecoboost as a crate engine from Ford. $8,000 list price

Looks like there's one for the 3.5L too. I see it on Jegs and Summit Racing. Hell, it's even on Amazon for $10k. Though it's listed as temporarily unavailable
