Hello fellow members!

SYNC gen 2 v3.10 is officially available for download from owner.ford.com website (have to create account first):

There are no so many changes listed, the most important is apparently adding new compatible phones:

EA5T-14D544-BA SYNC2 - V3.10

ABOUT THE LATEST UPDATE

The new software update for SYNC® with MyFord Touch® systems includes all the improvements from previous updates, plus additional changes to accommodate new and updated customer devices, such as:

  • Hazard switch illuminates on Focus / Escape with ignition off and park lamps on
  • Next Track / Previous Track controls from SYNC touchscreen
  • SYNC Maintaining Repeat / Shuffle settings that were set on the device side
  • Compatibility updates for the latest phone and media devices
The installation of this update will take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Be sure to keep your engine running (not in accessory mode) throughout the entire installation process. Turning off your vehicle during the update installation will disrupt the process. Although your vehicle must be in park when you begin the installation process, you may drive your vehicle while the update is downloading to your SYNC® system.

If your vehicle is equipped with the Intelligent Access with Push Button Start feature, you will need to temporarily disable the Automatic Engine Idle Shutdown (AEIS) component before beginning the installation in order to prevent your vehicle from timing out and shutting off the engine before the software update is complete. To disable this feature, use your steering wheel controls to navigate to the Settings menu on your left-hand Instrument Cluster LCD display. From there, select Vehicle >Auto Engine Off >Off. (If you do not see this setting, there is no need to make any changes before starting the update.)

Alternatively, after initiating the installation, you may drive the vehicle during the update process to avoid shutting off the engine. The next time you start your vehicle, the AEIS will automatically reset to "On."

Please note: During the update installation, SYNC® will temporarily appear to not recognize your mobile phone or media device. This is normal. Once your system has been successfully updated, SYNC® will display a notification stating "Installation complete."

I've never updated Sync myself using USB card. Can anyone tell me what side card is needed to download the update and is it anything more complicated that download update to the drive and insert drive into vehicle and start the update? And is there any benefit in having the update installed at the dealership compared to doing it myself at home?

Take one empty USB drive at least 1Gb in size. Download the SYNC archive from the web to your PC, unpack it to USB drive, next time you drive somewhere for at least 20-25min plug it into an USB port in your vehicle or alternatively you could install it while idling but it is wasting fuel.

They do appear to have separate downloads for nav versus non nav. I noticed the nav version I downloaded was missing the 911 assist application, the non nav has it. Once you install it, it will also say it installed version 3.7 which is wrong, it does actually install 3.10. Unfortunately Ford gets an "F" once again for proofing their releases.

As far as dealer upgrades go...one benefit is that the actual firmware of the APIM gets upgraded if there is an update available. This does not happen with a user USB update.

If you sign into your account, all the required info is there as to what you need and how to do the update and report its successful completion.

On the Ford owners site it tells me that I am up to date and version 3.6 is installed. No options to download newer versions. Well done Ford.

I would suggest chatting with sync support on via the owner website.

So I logged in to Ford's portal using my wife's account (she has a 2014 Fusion) and am right now downloading EA5T-14D544-BA.zip which is 3.10. LOL!

I did contact Ford via the chat, lady was clueless and said that she would send it on to someone and I'd hear back in 5 days.

What amazes me the most is the indifference of FoMoCo to its customers. MFT 3.10 was in limbo for over two years being not available for installation to majority of us since it was compiled on July 19 of 2016. Not only Ford tested it during that period of time as one would assume (compiled release was build 16180 and it is the same, still) nor it fixed the major bug upon completion of installation when system lets one know 3.7 version was successfuly installed!
Just pathetic...

I just checked my version and is 4.32.14073. According to MyFord account, I have the latest software. Also my Nav is 3.62.5 and sd card A6. How does this compare to what the rest of you are talking about?

I recently had the vehicle in to the dealer for the 17N03 update. Do you suppose they also upgraded the software?

I don't recognize MFT version and don't have MFT to check that. The latest to my knowledge is V3.10 build 16180 according to the first post. The latest S/D card is A9.
The fact that your account says you are up to date doesn't mean much anymore. I had the same notation on my account knowing it was NOT up to date.

Your software is definitely not the latest one as 4.32 is 3.7. The problem might be because of v3.7 wasnt available for installation to majority of other MY.

Very unlikely, you have to ask for that, SYNC 2 is under 5 year unlimited mileage warranty, so they'll have to do it for free as long as there is really an update for your vehicle in a dealer's system

It's the APIM that has a 5 year extended warranty. According to what Rebecca, the IVT Ford rep said, the dealer will only install an update for free if the owner is experiencing an issue with the current one and an update is available.

The best way in my opinion is to get installation package and install it yourself, easy and simple, only requires about 20-25 mins of driving somewhere (just not to waste fuel)

Nobody prohibits to tell that there are some issues with the current version...

Anyone know when was the last MFT update?

A use of the Forum's handy 'Search' feature would have brought up this thread to which yours was moved. Your answer is in the first post. Also check out the link in post #7 which talks about the release to the dealers only install.
