Hello everyone,

As I posted it in the new member section, I'm French with a 99 Ford Explorer.
So excuse my sentences or words, I'm learning English ;-)

My rear differential is leaking just in the axle shaft side.
I will change it with the two rear wheel bearings, in this way I have to drain out my rear differential only once.

But I didn't find an OEM reference on this seal... I was looking on different websites for days and no more information...
Does someone have the good OEM reference for the rear differential axle seal ?
My Ford is a 99 Explorer (15/12/1999) with a V6 4.0 SOHC.

Thank you.

I've already visited Rockauto.com
But the seal of the video doesn't seem to be in Rockauto's list...
That's why I'm looking for the OEM reference, just to avoid disassembling the rear differential just to discover it.

Although thanks for the video and the diy

Before you tear the axle down to install new seals check the differential breather line, make sure it is in place and clear of dirt, debris, or other blockage.
When the diff breather line is clogged the gear lube will push out past the seals at the axle shafts

Thanks for the diagram, I found the correct reference

Do you need a cross reference to the Motorcraft part? (below link) if so visit the RockAuto on-line catalog. There are many other brands of seals listed.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...+sohc,1354542,drivetrain,axle+shaft+seal,2336

I didn't the right reference compatibility in this list.
Never the less, I found the right one thanks to the first link.

I just have to wait my parts now ;-)

and check your vent tube
I see MANY 8.8 rear axles with plugged up vents on these trucks

I have attached our dealer diagrams if it helps any

Thanks,
Benny
