Broken metal inside trunk opener

The turn piece that operates opening the tailgate on my tailgate. Is there anything else I can do to make it open.

Are you referring to the latch assembly? Did the spring pop out of position? It's possible to push the spring back into place then connect a small metal bracket with a screw to prevent it from coming out.
