How To Fix your dim radio display

Hey All,
My wife's '06 V-8 XLT has intermittent lights on her HVAC panel. Sometimes you turn on the AC button and that makes the panel lights turn on.
Is there something that can be done for those lights????

Thanks for the writeup. I know it's been a while, but I bought an Explorer about 3 months ago and it had this problem. Today I decided to try and fix it. Took about an hour and 5 cuss words. But generally went as expected. FWIW: I didn't actually remove the radio from the dash. I just removed the torx screws (lower ones required a mirror) and pulled the radio display. So far so good. It seems to be fixed. Wife immediately set about reprogramming the presets.

fantastic post....i just worried about the soldering part ..is it hard to do????

Soldering takes some skill to do right. But if you take your time, keep your iron hot and clean, and don't overheat the components, you should be OK.
