My 1998 Explorer XLT has a great working condition front AC but when the rear is turned on a thumping noise is heard in the area of the vent running under the console that houses the rear ac fan. The fan is running and sounds fine but there is no meaningful amount of air coming out the vents. When the fan switch is turned off the sound stops. it sounds like a vent opening and closing. Is there a blend door or some sort of door in the console? I thought I posted this question a day or two ago so if this is a repeat I apologize.

Yes...there is a blend door motor in the console.

I've never actually serviced one...but, I'm looking at a console I just pulled last week and the only way to access it is from the bottom (which, of course, means pulling the console out of the truck). The motor looks similar to the one under the dash with two 8mm bolts holding it in place.
