Same mission. I just have more time. And 1,000$ not 100$ to work with. The pictures are so everyone can see what I am working with. I have no family here or friends and need to get out of AK before winter because of the weather and the Alcan highway through Canada. I came to all of you because I have done ALL my own work on my vehicles and thought I could save research time and have a connection to others that may be helpful for hiccups and guidance on where to start.
Forgive my ignorance, I have not done much transmission work. but bottom line is.....
I have a 99' Ford Explorer XLT automatic 4.0 4x4 Has no tranny or transfer case. I was told the engine was probably blown because oil in the intake. Everything else is in great condition it seems. I may be able to use the engine in it but I don't know how to find out what has cause oil to escape into the intake.
I have a 96' Explorer XLT 4.0 4x4. Runs but the wiring has an issue left Driver side window doesn't roll up anymore, the child locks don't turn off, the passenger side door got Tboned and now Pops catching the fender when opening from outside. Inside if you want out only the driver side door can open from inside. There is a short somewhere because the right brake light doesn't work either. (constant light but no breaking) it leans to the left because of a suspension issue. The sway bar link on the on driver side keeps breaking because of some kind of turning issue when in 4wheel. Now not an issue because the transfer case blew, loud noises of scary grinding and then no 4 wheel drive now it just makes a constant girgley whine. I believe that is it. Oh, none of the doors can b locked and no key lock for hatch at all just a whole, no back wiper.
I need to make 1solid truck and love my stick shift.
In the past I took an engine with tranny attached straight out a Trans Am and put it in my Camaro, I removed the engine and tranny same way only cracking the firewall a little but it went smoothly other than that with only having to swap a few sensors and hoses, (they were 85/86) I assumed I could do the same thing in this case.
I assumed if I had all the parts (between both trucks technically I do) it would take a few but we would have (finally) a decent truck.
Suggestions so far have been;
1)Drop the project.
2)Put a V8 in 99' transfer 96' tranny.
3)Take all cosmetic outside, fenders, hood, and hatch and put on old truck(96).
4)Fix newer (99) trucks' intake issues and use 99's engine only transfering the 96s' transmission.
5)give up and take both to the dump and fly. Use public transportation when I get to the states.
Hope this clarifies things a bit.
If you all still want the 96' engine pics and tranny pics let me know cuz it is time consuming and if the consensus is to drop it all or its too complicated to be of assistance to me via blog then I will take this advice and move on. I don't usually give up when the going gets tuff, especially on my vehicles that have taken care of the kids and I.
BUT, at this point I am losing my motivation and desire to try and may just take the easy route and deal with no car in the States where it's not below 0 and dark and depressing, but at least I won't be riding the bus in 6' ft of snow with a double stroller and 2 toddlers.
Thank you all for the suggestions and let me know what you think. Maybe I will put one of those polls up, "Do it?" or say "Fudge it. Peace out AK, you deal them"
Sorry bad morning, and school is starting, last year we were tardy 60 times in a row, I hate school.
