Hello,
It seems my Explorer has developed a small issue. For about the past two and a half week, my Explorer has been idling high. In park, the RPM hovers around 1500 and when in drive or reverse it stays around 1100. I cleaned the IAC and throttle body three days ago and now the idle returns to normal until the engine reaches its normal operating temperature. Once it reaches the temp, as soon as I put it into gear, the RPMs soar again. There is no check engine light on and there appear to be no other issues. Any help would be appreciated. Also, my car is equipped with the 4.0L V6 SOHC.

Most likely a bad IAC valve. They cost like $20 and last like 10 years. I don't know why people even bother cleaning/reinstalling them.

My Explorer started acting much like this just out of the blue one day. I replaced the IAC and cleaned the throttle body while I was at it. Problem solved. Cleaning the IAC doesn't guarantee that it will work correctly.
