Ok problem appeared on freeway. Wont lie, i floored it to pass someone who wouldnt let me get over.. when i put the pedal down felt as if the truck went into neutral. I quickly found that warm or cold. I can start in either 1,2 on the tree. Then i can shift into drive as long as overdrive was turned off. Once up to 45 i can turn od back on. My reverse works sometimes. I have to shift from park to 2 to reverse at which point it sometimes engages. Drive if babied and im talking my grandmother can scoot along faster in her walker and beat this thing 100feet before it engages enough to go if started in drive.. so the million dollar question.. whats wrong with that tranny? Sounds like fords private joke of a game show lol

Replaced trans filter and fluid with recommended merc v after trans problem

Repaired massive trans fluid leak in filler tube.. the tans fluid dip stick tube had a five inch long hole in it where the dipstick would rub the inside of the tube at a bend.

That sounds like a failed input sprag, it's a common failure for this transmission.

It will have to be removed and rebuilt or replaced, we have one in the shop this week with this exact failure.

Thanks for the reply JK080. Im currently scouting local scrap yards in hoped of finding a better trans mission. Non of which has any sport tracs even on their yards.. I thought i remember seeing a post of other year make model transmissions that were swapable direct bolt on. I havent been able to relocate it.

Update

I almost forgot to mention the past week ive been able to shift into reverse no without a proble . When i shift into drive it engages more often also... then tonight my od startef blinking and i got a code po720. Now im curious if its even mechanical and not just one of those electrical issues.. what do yall think.
Thanks again for all the help

The P0720 code is for the vehicle speed sensor, it's not uncommon to have this code if the vehicle has little or no forward movement.

The computer knows that the transmission is in drive and the brake pedal is released and the throttle is depressed, only thing missing was a signal from the VSS because the transmission wont move, so its sets the code for the VSS.
