I'm not sure if my car comes with the 5R55W or is it some other designation? I just want to get more information on it since it's aging. Just want to stay ahead of it.

5R55S was used in the 4th gen v6 up till 2010.

As RC said above

5R55W was used in 3rd gen behind 2 valve 4.6 v8, 2002-2005

5R55S is for 05+Mustang 03+later thunderbird, and Lincoln. 5R55W is suppose to be 3rd and 4th Gen (03-10) Explorer v6. 6R6 is for 4th gen only V8's. I've read this in several places.

Can you give me the source of your info?

Well my sources is wiki for the ford explorer 4th gen, multiple threads on this forum saying the transmission is the 5r55s, Explorer_PL and the tread labled how to beef the 5r55 transmission over in the modified section (i think thats where it is). If you do a custom search you can find it on here.

from everything I can find the W came in the explorers but the only difference is the gearing on the OD drum

S stands for standard gearing, W for Wide ratio.
