Does anyone know what kind of horse-power I get on my '96 4.0 L Push-Rod V-6, just curious. Thanks

Well mine has 350-375 tq, does that count? ;)

From my '97 Owner's Guide:

4.0L OHV
160 HP @ 4200 RPM
225 lb.ft. @ 2800 RPM

4.0L SOHC
205 HP @ 5000 RPM
250 lb.ft. @ 3000 RPM

5.0L V8
211 HP @ 4600 RPM
274 lb.ft. @ 3200 RPM

From my '98 Owner's Guide:

4.0L
160 HP @ 4200 RPM
225 lb.ft. @ 2750 RPM

4.0L SOHC
205 HP @ 5000 RPM
250 lb.ft. @ 3000 RPM

5.0L V8
215 HP @ 4200 RPM
288 lb.ft. @ 3300 RPM

1999-2001 SOHC
210 HP @ ???? RPM
240 lb.ft @ ???? RPM

I thought sohc V6 engines had between 240 - 250ftlb tq depending on the year? 205hp should be 250ftlb tq and 210hp should be around 240ftlb tq, right?

5.0 V8 = 210hp and 275ftlbtq, only off a little but I wonder why the manual would have those little mistankes, weird.

I had a typo in my '97 SOHC torque spec. I corrected it. I also added additional information.

Yes, the SOHC had 205 HP, 250 lb.ft. of torque for the '97 & '98 model year. In '99 Ford changed it to 210 HP, 240 lb. ft.

:( that saddens me. maybe that supercharger will come before the wheels. thats just insane though, i thought it had a lot of torque? grrrrrrrr!

I don't understand. If you thought it had a lot of torque and it was doing fine for you, why stress over some numbers?

its a physcological(sp?) thing....u know?

Just think, about the only vehicles with larger hp/tq ratios are big rigs or diesel p/u's. 225tq to 160hp is a lot comparatively.

if you bought your X with the idea that it had huge hp or torque numbers you were decieved!

I would be more stressed over the measley 160 HP out of 4 liters...I have the same motor.

The horsepower numbers are down because the ohv engine is not very high revving. HP is torque/time value.

Is the stroke of this engine long compared to the ohv? I wonder why it redlines (stock) at 5000rpm.

what mod gives more power increase, chip, exhaust system, or other? I only have k&n drop in right now, but that did not do much. My 94 with 5 speed has a new engine, but I am in the process of bushing and hub replacement. When I finish this I will seek more power at some point and I need suggestions.

Thanks, Rob

I never thought it had a lot of power, just more than it actually has. But i'll just have to live w/it until i save up enough for a V8 mountaineer :D

Just a tid bit of information. At www.autotrader.com on the left side, research and compare you can pull up specs on old and new vehicles. Comes in handy when your bored. Or good to know what your running against.

oh yeah at the next link when you click go to Model Info on the right side...
