yeah so the person who had my Cavalier before me put a hitch on it, I believe its rated for liek 2000lbs, but the car with my engine and auto trans is only rated to pull 1000lbs......and i dont have the auto, i have the 5-speed, go figure? I even have a 7-round connector!

anyways, when i saw the hitch i laughed as did my family and friends...but i figured maybe i will use it one day. i contemplated taking the bar out so that you wouldnt see the hitch but just never got around to it....tonight i am glad i didnt!

we got about 3-4" of snow within a few hrs which isnt bad but michigan drivers are really something else. on my way home i was stopped at a red light getting ready to turn right and a mid-90s dodge dakota rearends me. so i hit the 4-ways an dthe ebrake, and get out.....not a scratch on me because he hit the hitch ball! he however has a nice dimple in his chorme bumper...the jerk didnt even get out, he just shrugged and said its fine and took off! i should have gotten his plate # but the important part is my car is fine! who wouldve thought that such a redundant piece of equipment would LITERALLY save my @$$! and for those of you who just cant picture a hitch on a cavalier, here it is:

Well he is an @ss. He should have got out. But its cool that your car is ok.

The only time I ever rearended a vehicle it was a Bronco II with a hitch ball. My bumper never had a scratch on it, that metal bumper and hitch ball just decimated everything above the bumper, I was only going 7MPH or so too...

$3500 or so worth of damage to the Lincoln I had at the time, not a mark on the Bronco. It was so bad they had to pry off the hood, in the process triggering both front air bags.

So I can definately believe it lol

Sounds like I should get a ball for the receiver on my girlfriend's Toyota Tercel...

Don't laugh, I may get a hitch for my VW to pull a go-cart or some other toy.

Over in Europe you see people pulling small boats and camping trailers with small cars all the time.

UDMSVT did you sell your X?

i traded the ex + 900 bucks for the cavalier on dec 12. as for the escort, its been sitting fopr a few weeks but i am selling it to my parents the first part of feb for $500. i miss having a 4x4 but i love getting 300 miles on 11 gallons of gas. plus the cav is MUCH fater! 150 hp stock, plus a 5-speed, plus it weighs under 3000 lbs.

BTW vairking, i am interested in riding along if you go n any more runs this year, maybe we could work something out?

The hitch is so you can put one of those tow hooks in the sleeve to pull you out of the ditch. j/k. It's interesting what people put on cars.

My brother rear-ended someone once in his old Rodeo. The car didn't even have a scratch but his front end went to sh*t. It just shows that people get what they deserve. You rearend someone and you get all the damage.

ya knwo its funny you should ,ention getting stuck....i burried teh front in a snow bank last week and got yanked out by the hitch by a chevy 1500!

I like how many cars even come with the tow loops in the rear. My brother's Jetta is essentially all plastic, but he has a tow loop to drag him out of trouble....which I did.

too bad you didnt get the plate #... thats hit and run!

hopefully there is no underlying damage.... the hitch can divert problems, but you cant always see damage to a sructural member....

I agree, if you find out later that there's a problem there is nothing you can do or anything you can prove that you were in an accident. Or what if he came back and said that you backed into him or something....He may have your plate number!

i'm not worried about it; had it been real bad it wouldve broke the hitch.....remember, its not a class 3 or anything like that, class 2 at best! also its not like he hit me full force, he was sliding. as for hit and run, he was scared, and i hate cops so i didnt want to deal with them

not too worried about it. he only has a dimple and a kid on an older pickup, he doesnt have full coverage. besides, there is no way i could back into him that hard

You never know with some of these people though. But from the description of the person, I doubt there is much that he is going to do. But you know these lawyer types who will sue anyone.

My GTI has a rear tow loop. Often these are to tie down the car during shipment. The fact that they're later there for extraction is gravy.

i dont know about in texas but in many places, including michigan, its a state law that all vehicles have some sort of recovery point.

My roommate has a GTI also, and I had to pull him out of the snow twice using that tow loop heehee. And Its pretty strong considering how hard I yanked the 2nd time
