Unless you put some radical tires on in place of the stock one's the tires should not matter... Most times the winneing noise is fron the rear end assy... Plus the trans should have the transmission oil & filter changed about every 50K miles for best service...

Thanks for the details... Can & where do we lub the rear wheel bearings? Had the entire rear member assy changed a couple of years ago, the front end was rebuilt last year, now with 200K just there is some occasion noise {slight whine} in the rear end some times...

Have 02 XLS (4L) w. 182K have heard a similar clicking sound at ideal on the driver side of engine @ idle; but so far have not found any reason and replaced all the plugs and it seems to run OK...

Well having driven a 02 Explorer XLS {w.182K} since new; had orig Xmission replaced by Ford at 35K then Had rebuilt unit @ 70k; learned that if you will get the Trany serviced {need complete fluid exchange} at about 35k intervals it will last much longer... This is one way to get better...

I understand that there is a built in computer Rev Limit @ 3000... It saves the engine damage!
