    tranny dyiing - best replacement?

As for the computer question TCS is comming out with a standalone computer for the 5R55E this summer appearantly... I'm trying to decide if I want to swap out my A4LD for a 5R55E or just upgrade to a F150... I live in a high rust area, and the engine has 200 000 km... I'm wondering if it's worth...

    Glitchy Transmission gotten worse

ok, I have an A4LD with 190k kilometers on it (120kmiles) so I know it's not long for this world and have been waiting for TCS to come out with the 3rd party standalone computer so I can swap in a rebuilt 5R55E. I have a feeling it's not going to last until summer unless I do something...

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

*face in hands* I don't think you understand what I'm trying to do. I'm looking to cut the fenders so I don't have to lift, I can't cut the fender 3" all around because the rear doors wrap around the front of the rear well... if I move the axel back3", I can cut 6" off the back of the...

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

cool, but you have a lift kit on in that pic right? I'm trying to do it without any lift... I suppose I could put on shackles in the rear and f150 spacers up front for another 2 inches of lift... that wouldn't be all that much... I'm sure I'd rub quite a bit though... gotta try it out...

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

I'd be using this for general off road, I won't be rock crawling, but I will be in mud, sand, lots of snow, and steep hills. Plus this would be something I could do in my garage without too much work... and save the money for a tranny upgrade and a doubler. This would be for vehicle recovery...

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

keeps me from raising my center of balance as much, and I like the look of the icelandic 4x4s where they do much the same thing... little bit of lift and a whole lot of cutting.

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

I don't quite understand how i could do that using a saws all, the distance between the rear door and the wheel well opening in the fender is just over an inch. If I want to put 35s on I'll need to widen the wells at least 3" which would be 2 inches or so into the door and the cab floor. That...

how hard would it be to move rear axle back 3-6 inches

I'd like to put larger than 32" tires on my 94 4 door explorer without putting a lift kit on, just cutting the fenders, in order to do that I'd have to move the rear axle back a few inches as the rear doors wrap around the first 1/4 of the wheel well I'm assuming it would be a matter of...

hybrid drive train - Transfer case backwards ok?

"Unless gas prices skyrocket I dont think you will ever recover the money you are looking at investing in the vehicle. It can work but I think you will be disappointed." well gas is 0.92 CAD a liter here, thats 2.95 a gallon USD if I double my city mileage I will save $80 per...

hybrid drive train - Transfer case backwards ok?

"So simply saying that you are going to use the input as an output and two outputs as inputs makes me think you might get 1,000 miles and then have total system failue. It might work for a while, but I don't think it would be reliable in this configuration." ok... so if I attach the...

hybrid drive train - Transfer case backwards ok?

ok... I've been doing a lot of research on converting my XLT into a hybrid vehicle. I'm favoring the gas powered (eventually convert to diesel), electric assist theory, and want to make the explorer AWD/4WD... This is a pic of what I think I have and what I want to do...

    Tranny issue's

you mean when you pull up to a light, and you are in drive, it's you rev up to go and it's like you are in nuetral, then around 2500 RPM the tranny then "Clunks" and you go... I have the same problem, I know I have a bad Vaccuum modulator on the tranny that has to be replaced, I think that...

Hi Arnie... If I get time I'll build a calculator for this that will include imperial measurements... I learned metric so they are easier for me... when I calculate what you should get for 80 MPH with 33" tires and 4.56 ratio diff, in OD you should get 2917 RPM which is really close, and...

Please Help , Explorer Lift And Gears

um, by definition it's impossible for that not to work... the 4.56 means the drive shaft spins 4.56 times to spin the tires once the distance the tires roll in one revolution is the circumferance so 4.56 driveshaft revs turns the wheel once, and assuming no sliping, you travel the...

    so a 33" tire has a 2.64 meter rolling distance and 80mph = 128km/h = 2133 meters/minute 2.64m/4.56 = .58 meters per drive shaft rotation .58 * 3000 rpm = 1740 Meters per Minute 1740/2133 = .816 od ratio (ie .816 of a rotation on the crank = 1 rotation on the drive shaft) is this right?

to maintain current RPMs or as close to as possible at 70mph...(assuming you have 3.73 diffs) go to 4.1 for 31" tires, 4.56 for 33" tires and about 100 rpm increase, or 35" tires for a 50 rpm decrease

    Hybrid conversion options

yeah, but where do I put the generator set? I thought about doing an electric conversion and then build a generator trailer for long trips, but that would make off road impossible... also electric motors heat up dangerously when under load at low rpm. also with that set, is I'd have to spend...
