I'm looking to purchase a 2004 Explorer XLT with about 95,000 miles on it. I'll be checking it out today. I currently own a 2015 Explorer and previously owned a 2000. Just curious on opinions regarding the timing chains and the transmission issues I seem to see as common complaints.

YOur best bet is to buy the Compound Kit from Pioneer for your radio and replace the part. That "goo" is actually a silcone sealant.

Be sure to have them cross reference your radio to that part. There are different parts for different radios.

Actually its none of that. The power supply board for the display is not made very well. AS a result it overheats and disables the display. I have removed mine and resoldered it a few times. The last time moving alot of the resistors up to let them cool better, this let it work for about 2...

One tidbit on Ford. They use platinum plugs, but they use different ones in each bank. I've seen this on my Explorer and two Taursus'. I have no idea why they do this.

Most likely, if you can put a dot of solder on the place you scratched.
