    97 explorer 4.0L SHOC idle surge

    hi I've been having trouble with idle on my ex cold or hot the idle surges from nearly stall to about 1200 rpm I have cleaned IAC , MAF and checked TPS for proper operation. Pulled codes and have code P1400 DFPE Sensor but I only just replaced this 800km ago. Any ideas.

    Went to mechanic and he says it's my lower ball joints now I'm just wondering how the clunking noise is travelling to the rear. Any ideas.

    Another one I am going to change the rear diff oil what is recommended and do i have to get some friction modifier as well. I also noticed I have the rear end sag to one side could this be the problem as well?

    Yes sometimes when accelerating gently but not in reverse.

    No I have front wheels on ramps & back on stands only back wheels in the air. The front drive shaft is disconnected.

    Well did the test on Drive shaft (rear) a fair bit of play in rotation but none backwards & forwards & a very slight bit of play when I twist the 2 pieces near T/C I mean 0.5 to 1mm. And parking brake is a bit sticky very hard to turn the wheels off the ground I can hear the disc & pads...

    I did notice when this noise occurs you can feel it in the drive line like a slight jolt.

    Well guys I'm at a lose I've replaced the T/C replaced the tranny mount & still the loud clunk or rattle on acceleration coming from under vehicle But I did notice that sometimes it sounds like it's coming from rear of car. Would this be universal joint problem? I hope so I've got no more idea's.

    Well I was changing it out because there is a loud clunk or clang under the car on acceleration only. So then I've decided to remove T/C and pull apart to see what was wrong.
