    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Well, it is entirely possible to be successful using a Ford Cologne SOHC engine from in my case a 2008 Ford Ranger, I documented my whole journey here and on a few other Land Rover forums (a few differences in posts), lots of help from all folks on all forums! I transplanted this engine into a...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

A quick update, the Moroso pre-oiler works like a charm and the machine has nearly 50,000 Km on the 2008 Ford Ranger 4WD V6 engine, this is definitely a great replacement for the Land Rover branded Cologne V6...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

2nd oil change at 254289 Km (3500 Km from 1st). machine is running like a clock. Sold the original Land Rover block and heads to a fellow who has the same problem, he'll be rebuilding the LR3 engine and dropping it in to his machine in the spring.

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Well just completed the first oil and filter change (Castrol 5W-30 synthetic and Ford Motorcraft filter) after about 4000 Km and the oil was a bit dark, so this was a good thing! Just getting the Nissan X-Trail ready for sale (fixing the rear window defroster) and hoping the LR3 is as good as a...

    Engine block heater.

I would not ever imagine you would need one in Kentucky and definitely not in Florida but these are located in the engine block "frost plug" locations and generally the block heater is on the passenger side of the engine block, but it could be on the driver's side. People in really cold parts of...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Thanks Don... Have just sold my Cloyes chain/gear kit and the Chinese knockoff OTC timing tool set to a fellow who is rebuilding a 2003 4x4 Ranger 4.0 SOHC engine so I guess I'll be helping him out on his project (complete restoration) and hanging around on this forum for quite some more time...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Obviously you are correct, have rectified the situation by using heat and screw on clamps, just came back from a 1500 mile trip and no problems at all...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Push Lock is allegedly what we were using, just had never used them before and the hose we had had a teflon inner part which we obviously cracked by not heating it first, which just could not take the constant warm oil even at a low 55 or so psi. Lucky the locksmith was a stickler for precision...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

First problem cropped up on Thursday when I went to Edmonton to get 2 sidewinder keys cut for the LR3, and the locksmith came outside to look at the Ranger transplant. He noticed a few drops of oil under the engine, so we looked harder, and sure enough, the hose from the oil sender "T" to the...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Have more than 2000 Kms on this engine swap now and going for the first oil change, no problems and just got the Land Rover IIDTool (GAP) going, will be watching the machine and reporting on any problems. The pre-oiler is working like a charm, am very happy with the results of using the Moroso...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Definitely, after putting on about 1200 Km so far, but if I did it again I'd either supercharge the V6 or put in a modern fuel injected V8. Since this Land Rover LR3 weighs about 5300 pounds empty (same as my stepson's new Ford Raptor 4x4 crew cab truck) the V6 is hardly a tower of power...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Skid plates NOT reinstalled (I am over 70 and unlikely to go "mountain" submerged and over large rocks) but are storing them for the next owner, and decided to put about 2000 Km on the fresh oil/filter change before changing again to Castrol Edge 5W-30 (synthetic). Also going to find out who is...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Well the radiator was fixed via an aluminum (or aluminium) welding process, pressure tested and some fins straightened, then installed and filled. At about 1720 MDT today we fired it up, started first crack, idled up to 1200 rpm and after about 2 minutes dropped to 800, we ran it till the...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Thanks Don, I'll use that as my initial setting, I'm using the 1 1/2 quart Moroso initially set to about 7 PSI, 4 feet of AN6 hose, and 1/4" ID fittings, the solenoid and Moroso are 1/2" fittings so I guess it empties and fills a lot faster than initially thought, have never used one before...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

I have put brand new tensioners into this Ranger engine and we did spin it up to check them, all is good. I did not like the $200 price tag on the solenoid from Moroso so got a high class made in China version for about $25, plus a timer circuit (adjustable) to only keep the solenoid open for a...

    Land Rover LR3 4.0L V6 Replace with 2008 Ranger VIN E

Thanks for the info on the filter and adapter. We won't know until we get more of the ancillary stuff on the engine (starting in again on Monday), plus those factory skid plates don't leave a lot of room under the original filter. My priority is finding enough room to get my Moroso pre-oiler...
