Check you belts to make sure they(iT) are tight. Also check the water pump. Noise coming from this area is a FORD trademark.

I would check the PCM. If in 4x4 on dry ground the wheels will grab. I had something like this happen on my 02 XLT and had to change the PCM. It worked until Icracked it up some 30k after. My 06 XLT goes into 4x4 without any interference

Try reprogramming the PCM(Dealer - $100 in Canada) if that does not work you would have to take a shot at replacing the SOLENOID Pack(Dealer 500 plus Labor, Pack can be purchased on Ebay for less than 300)

With the C2R-FRD1 can you hook up the reverse sensors to the unit? If not how do I hook up the sensors without having an extra display for the distances etc?

Have you guys checked the local junk yard? Check to make sure that it is really the motor that is bad. It could be the gears in the assembly. If it is like the 92 then it is just a matter of taking the door panel off, removing the rivets and take the assembly off and repair it.

A visit to Carproof might be a good idea. If the maintenance was done by a dealer, they will have a record of it. I would also think that a two year minimum aftermarket insurance would be a good idea. I bought a 2006 in january 2009 and had some problems with the front drive about a year later...
