    Rear window wiper

Shorter fingers work! Thanks GIJOECAM, I filed down the fingers and gone are the missed spots on the glass. Before I could actually watch as the arm would lift off the glass when wiping. After I filed down the fingers a little I placed the arm over the spot where it used to lift and I had...

    Extended warranty about to expire.

Well I wasn't able to pick it up last night because they found an o-ring in the new compressor failed and leaked the R134 out. The pressure switch was keeping the clutch from engaging. They replace the o-ring, but wanted to keep it over night to make sure that was the only leak. They had it for...

    Extended warranty about to expire.

Well I finally got my Explorer back from the dealer. They replaced the transfer case and the vibration is gone. It's nice and smooth driving now. The 00M12 recall was done and I haven't had it long enough to say if I here any difference. They replaced the AC compressor with a rebuilt one...

Well I brought it in on Wed the 23rd and I probably wont see it again until Wed the 30th. Built Ford Tough is a bunch of {well you fill in the words here}. I'm told that the Transfer case needs to be replaced, the timing chain cassette needs to be replaced. The AC compressor was leaking oil...

    Extended warranty about to expire.

My extended warranty with Ford is about to expire and I'm bringing it in to them tomorrow to have things checked out. Some of the things I'm going to have them check are listed below: - When accelerating passed about 1/3 throttle I get an up and down vibration on the steering wheel. It...

Something fell off, what is it?

As stated before, I believe its the part that the spare tire lowering shaft fits into. You know the two shafts that go together with the lug wrench. The shaft has a square end that fits into a square hole so that the cable pulley can raise and lower the spare tire. If I remember correctly, the...

    gps like this?

I know that the major companies (Magellin, Rand McNally, etc) have units that are add-ons that don't have screens. For instance, I believe it's Magellin that has a Springboard module for the Handspring PDA. It doesn't have a screen it uses the PDA's screen. Here's a few links...

What year X do you have?

You know, 1998's should be in a catagory by themselves since they have the front of a 95-97 but the back door is the new design used on 99-01's. Therefore, I did not vote.

CA Smog check and K&N drop-in

Did anyone in CA with a SOHC engine and a K&N drop-in filter have any problem passing the CA smog check? I'm interested in both visual and the test itself. Thanks.

    re-filling coolant sys

Use an aspirin I was told by an old mechanic that a trick he uses to fill coolant after replacing the thermostat and changing coolant is to wedge an aspirin in the new thermostat to keep it open while filling. This will allow a more complete fill prior to starting the engine. When you do...

    spuddering in low rpm

I can see if a spark plug gap is too wide, but what will happen if the gap is narrowed smaller then spec? Does the cause the spark to be not as hot but be more consistent? I've been troubleshooting a miss in idle on a 94 Cavalier for awhile now and have replaced everything except for the fuel...

    Fram Sure Drain

I have a concerns about any device that may restrict any larger particles from flowing out of the oil pan when draining. If, god forbid, there happens to be any sludge in the oil pan for whatever reason, you would not know about it and it will remain in the pan. I think I will continue to do it...

'98 4wd in Auto mode constantly engages/disengages when accelerating

Robert I didn't say I pup it into 4Hi then make a turn. I said i put in 4Hi after making the turn and traveling straight up the paved street hill. I have an extended warrenty with Ford so it should only cost me $50, but I have a few other things for them to check. I'm also considering...

'98 4wd in Auto mode constantly engages/disengages when accelerating

Jon_Herr I am a little confused, you refer to your 98 as AWD but the TSB referes to 4x4Auto mode. Do you have an AWD or 4x4 Explorer? Also, has anyone gotten any hesitation from Ford on performing this TSB on a 98 4x4? I have had this shutter ever since my 98 SOHC 4x4 was new and felt...

'98 4wd in Auto mode constantly engages/disengages when accelerating

Robert Doesn't your 97 have a vacuum actuator for the front that the 98's don't have? By disconnecting the shift solenoid on the 98, will there be any undesirable wear on the front driveline?

    Ford Trailer Hitch HELP!!

I have the tube style hitch made for the 98+ with the new style bumper. I bought it from UHaul (check here here). It's actually made by Valley Hitch in Lodi CA. They have been making quality hitch stuff forever. This is all my dad will buy. Anyway, what I've noticed is this hitch is not under...

help with calculating milage with bigger tires

I was going to suggest a GPS like Robert said. Amazon.com has a basic GPS Garmin xTrex (bright yellow one) for $99 dollars and it will tell you your exact speed. Once you know how far off the speedo is, it just a matter of doing the math to determine the distance you would add or subtract from...
