If I had the head out, what is the correct way to remove the freeze plug on this 4.6L head?

Its the freeze plug on the head at the rear of the driver's side!!! There is about 2.5 inches between the firewall and the head. Any ideas on getting it out easily?

z71bam, I never figured it out. I assume it was the valve cover gasket. the bogging turned out to be a bad Coil Over Plug

I don't think it should cost that much. I think its just some sealant from a tube, and a refill. Try another shop. Maybe they want to do the drive-shaft input seal, and the two seals on the sides at the same time. That would cost more, but $500 more?

So, you filled up with 18 gallons after the warning? Was the needle reading low too? The warning usually comes on when it calculates that you have 50 miles before empty. Maybe something is added to the fuel in Iceland that is lowering your MPG.

plug is cheap. Do the plug first. Add dielectric grease to the boot of the coil and the connector end to keep moisture out. If you just want it running right again. Do both at the same time. If the other plugs are due, then you should do those too.
