Hello all, although I've stalked here for several years I just now joined the forum. I live in CA and own a 1997 Explorer Sport (2wd) 4.0 SOHC purchased new. Originally it was purchased for my wife and then handed down to me, then my daughter, then back to me and then at 160K miles after constant begging back to my daughter... It's a great truck! I have had very little issue with it by simply maintaining the regular driveway maintinance stuff and replacing the timing assembly a couple of times.
I even used it for three years to tow a 21' open bow runabout.
In the last couple of years outstanding issues (considered minor) are:
1. Exterior driver door handle became "floppy".
2. Driver door sometimes will not unlock from the outside with remote or key.
3. Third brake light (LED) is out.
4. All 12v outlets are dead and if fuse is replaced it will blow pretty quick.
5. Driver seat recline lever broken off.
6. A/C compresser/clutch dead.
This weekend (Father's Day) I plan on replacing the front brakes and both rotors.
Well, thanks for all the help in the past and I hope to offer some assistance in the future if I can.
As a hobby/business I do diecut vinyl signs and decals via my 24" plotter, so if you need any custom lettering, decals, stripes or graphics feel free to hit me up.
