I've been having trouble finding clear or blacked out tail lights for my 00 Sport... all the ones on ebay are for the wrong year, or only say they fit the regular explorer. Any help? Thanks

Take a look at Celly's Feature Truck - he did the "candy apple mod" - basically staining the lens to darken it - IMO, it looks MUCH better than any aftermarket lenses. Do a search for it.

If you have a truly 2000 Sport then any 98-00 (Sport) & 01 (4-door) Explorer tails will fit. If you have an O1+ Sport then they are totally different then anyother Explorer, like mine:

You can just smoke your stockers with spray tail tint like I did here:

You can go darker or lighter, just depends on how dark you spray.

So the only 4 door explorer that has the same tail lights as an 00 Sport is a 01 4 door?

ANY tail light off ANY Explorer from '98-01 (except the '01 Sport) will fit your Ex. In '01 the Sport received a makeover. In '02 the 4-door got completely redesigned.

One can would make them pitch black. I used two very thin coats on each tail and it was almost too dark. I have another set with three coats and they're too dark. You need very little of this stuff to get the job done.

      Use sparingly.

I'm looking at it on ebay for $15.50 including s/h. Is that a good price?

See if you can find it locally. In a big place like SD you should be able to. I've seen it locally here for around $10 CAD which works out to under $8 USD.

Testors has a transparent black that's supposed to work well. Try a model store.

Maybe contact VHT and see where they sell it in SoCal. In a place like Cali, I'm sure there are many places that have it.

Has anyone done the tinting on a 95-97? I'm no longer a fan of my altezzas and would like to try it on the stockers, but i'm not sure what it's turn out like...anyone got pics?

Celly - how does it hold up in the winter? The salt here is rediculous and i could see it just eating away at the tint...

I've seen both the candy apple and the smoked mod on 95-97 tails and it looks great. As far as holding up to winter, mine are doing fine. My Ex is covered in salt right now (we just had a melt). Granted, Buffalo uses way more salt than we do here in Calgary, but I don't anticpate a problem. I have about 10 coats of automotive clear coat on mine. Definitely do the same. Nightshades is very thin. I can't see it holding up (although I have heard it's quite durable). Also, the lights look kind of drab without clear coat applied over the candy apple/tint.
