22" Wheels For Explorer

What he said^^*diffrent offsets don't matter. It's the wheel diameter. Should all equal same tallness

I am going to purchase 22s for my EXP Sport. I am going to lower it too. I want to push the wheels out so they are flush. What would a good offset be for 22x9.5?

Post up the link to that post please, cause I've never seen that. Sounds rediculous
to me! A 285/25/22 is 27.6" in diameter. 25/30 series tires are meant for Sporty cars like Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, not 5000 pound SUV's. Even with lowering springs, there would be a greater gap than with his stock wheels/tires/ springs. If it is fact, those wheels won't be round for long with all the pot holes around.
My 285/40/22 are 31" in diameter.

That sounds crazy, but there's a guy on here running 22x10.5 in rear and I belive 22x9 upfront and he hasn't said anything about computer issues but I could be wrong. I think ass long as all the tires are the same it should be ok. He's running 285/25 all the way around...

Just make sure that you stay within the maximum diameter variance of 3% compared to OEM. The modules, like ABS, are programmed for the OEM tire size. Going over will also negatively affect the brakes and suspension parts.
Sites like tirerack.com and 1010tires.com generally have tools/programs for offsets etec.

Looking to buy a set of 22x9.5 wheels with a 15mm offset. Not looking to lower the vehicle, but want to fill the wheel well as much as possible without any rubbing.

What's the max tire size you guys are running on a set of 22x9.5?

Your thread was merged with this existing one.
Please complete your registration by adding the requested/required "Trim Level" to your profile so it will show in the margin. This is useful info to have at times.
By seeing the trim that you have we will know your OEM tire size which you haven't indicated in the post. When changing tire sizes it is highly recommended to stay within 3 % diameter variance of the OEM size.

No rubbing at all, plus I have adaptors to bring the wheels/tires flush with the fenders (front 3/4", rear 1"). Offset is 39mm. The wheels were brand new OEM Edge Sport's in the box.

I also had the original Sport 22 OEM wheels.

Do you experience any rubbing? What kind of offset on those wheels? Looks great!

I have a 2016 and notice that some trims have the 245/60/18 (mine) and others are running 255/50/20. I know the rule is to stay within 3% and I'm looking to go from the 245/60/18 to a 285/40/22. That size stays pretty much within the 255/50/20 size (almost, at 3.1%), but not within the size on mine, 245/60/18.

Is there a difference between the trims that have different wheel/tire sizes? Would I still be ok running a 285/40/22 or even 275/40/22, or should I err on the side of caution?

The Base and XLT have the 245/60R18 tires as standard and the Limited, Sport and Platinum have the 255/50R20 as standard. The 285/40R22 would have a diameter difference of 4.7%. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=245-60r18-285-40r22
The systems on your Explorer were designed with your OEM size in mind. Therefore don't compare other tires to the ones on the trims with the 20".

So Peter is it possible to get the ABS system updated to a new tire size if we wanted to go from the 18in XLT to 22in wheels and tires? I believe the XLT has the same size brake system right?

Although I'm not 100% sure, I don't think so. The 2016 and 2017 models apparently have pre programmed wheel sizes that can be selected with the aid of IDS or I think Forscan, but even those sizes are only for wheels that fall within the acceptable diameter range. Going over that diameter variance size (3%) will add extra strain on brake and suspension parts.

Its prob obvious but pic 1 is stock, pic 2 is 22" wheel and tire upgrade, pic 3 is H&R spring kit - I thought it just might help others trying to decide if they see the progression.

No rubbing, drives great, little bit more bounce at full spring compression, Amazing improvement on stopping power w EBC Rotors and pads.

Livernois stage 1
Niche 22"

EBC rotors and "yellow stuff" pads

Thanks Peter, I really apprec the due diligence of many posters, it was a great help in choosing this truck and how to improve it. I love the way it drives, espec after the tune. I tow racebikes to tracks almost every wkd with it, and with the "Tow" tune its effortless and about 16mpg doing 80 w 1500lbs in tow. With the exception of having to put put $3500 into front end maint (wheel bearings, struts and bearings, bushings, and new cam timing phasers, solenoids, and water pump (80k miles), I couldnt be happier.
