Thinking about a 4" but may need to go 6" ?

I want to put a 31 - 33 tire on my 91 Explorer Eddie Bauer. How high do I need to take it.

I also heard that bolt on lifts were not very good and that I should engage a FAB shop to do the work for me.

Can you guys/gals clear up the rumors for me please.

To fit 33's you will need at least 5.5" of suspension lift. Better off with 6". Try a search also there is a ton of info on this subject. Not sure about the installation. It is beyond my capabilities but that's not to say you couldn't do it with the right tools and friends.

Go for the 6 inch lift (skyjacker) you will probably still rub a little with 33's

As for the bolts not being good, never heard that one before. You should be able to do the lift yourself. Actually you should do your own lift yourself incase you ever break something you will know what to do. Its honestly not that hard, just time consuming.

      Lift

Well having seen many drop brackets crack from the stress that they are put under I would say yes and no. I feel that if you go with a large suspension lift, with brackets, I would not go more than 4 inches and if you did... go with the SkyJacker if you can find it. I had a James Duff 2.5 inch and 31's on my 92 and never had a problem but then the fulcrum is much smaller on a 2.5 compared to a 6.

there isnt any problem with the new brackets they have made... and you can easily put the lift on yourself theres not much too it... just time consuming.... all your doing is using brackets and moving everything down.... if you like doing this kinda work i would suggest doing it yourself just for the fact you know what your dealing with if anything ever happens.... plus you can give you truck that little extra care a shop cant.
