4wd to 2wd swap

what all would i need to make this happen? i have a 98 explorer with the 4.0. the 4wd is out and i found a nice 2wd tranny for a good price.

That depends on how far you wanna go, at the least you will need a tranny, driveshaft, and i believe the GEM box, if you want true 2wd you will need the front spindles from a 2wd and drop out the front halfshafts and diff, otherwise you will have a 2wd but the front tires will still turn the front axles and diff, you didn't say what motor you have, but if its the v8 you will not need the GEM swap as the v8 GEMs are all 2wd

it has the v6 amd what exactly is the gem box

Its part of the control system, its behind the radio in the dash, on the left, its a black box about the side of a VHS tape and has four or five wiring plugs going into it,
