Anybody heard about the biggest quake in world history since the past 40 yrs? The tsunami was enormous and has killed tens od thousands of people.
Hopefully they get things back to normal in not too long. I have a bad feeling that disease is going to spread now.
I hope the death toll doesn't get too high.
      Crazy

I have several missionary friends that are in that region of the world. So far, I have only heard from one couple - and they are on the China Sea side of Malaysia... They escaped unharmed, but say that what we are hearing and seeing is only the tip of the iceberg. They really don't know how many bodies will turn up - nor do they have the sort of counting mechanisms that we take for granted here in the USA. Many killed will end up being tourists there for the Christmas holidays - and it will only be when they fail to return home that their fate may become known...

This is a disaster of immense proportions... both in human lives and property damage...

News said this morning it is up to 50,000 deaths due to the tsunami.

It will probably continue to rise.

Did anyone see the American on CNN reunited with his 18 month old that he was holding when the wave hit? he could not hold him. Kid was found by another tourist. The Dad was hysterical, he was balling. It kinda gave me a lump in my throat. Imagine not being able to hang onto your child?

My paranoid Catholic mother in law thinks this is the apocolipse.

      Tsunami death toll

      Country Estimated deaths
      Indonesia 79,940
      Sri Lanka 27,268
      India 7,368
      Thailand 2,394
      Somalia 114
      Myanmar 90
      Maldives 69
      Malaysia 65
      Tanzania 10
      Bangladesh 2
      Kenya 1
      Estimated total 117,000

Woody put up a poll the other day about death and if somebody would notify the message boards. Now it makes me wonder with numbers like these and the size of this message board was there somebody that we know that was affected by this. After 9-11 it was difficult to not know somebody that had a friend, relative or business associate that was affected and that disaster/attack was tiny compared to this.

I have several close friends that are Baptist missionaries in that part of the world (Saipan, Phillipines, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, India) and they have all been affected - but so far, no lives lost. They generally do not live right on the coastline, though one friend had just moved from one side of Malaysia to the other and the apartment building he had occupied was one of the ones wiped out by the water and earthquake.

He and his family had just moved to the other side of the island because they had another baby and needed a larger place to live. Doubly blessed, I would say.

They are now highly involved in relief efforts - and in directing the supply flow that the Baptist people are sending their way.

Not to hyjack the thread, but that's a good point.

Did we have anyone we lost on this board that was a member in the 9/11 attacks?

AND, did we have any members that we lost in this disaster?
