A little christmas gift for a friend

My friend just bought a new 2004 Sport Trac XLT and he wanted to get the MAC intake kit but wants to know if there would be any real difference between just a drop in filter and like a whole new set up and i told him the only way he would find out is to get one himself but he doesnt have that kind of money so he told me to get him one between like 30-40$ and so i went on ebay and bought some filter and adapter set for like 20$ and told him its cheap but he might see/feel something and if he doesnt im only out 20$+s/h instead of 100$+ for a MAC intake or KKM and was wondering if anyone else on here have bought cheap filter/adapter kits and seen/felt anything different than just like a drop in K&N
