Ok, im new to the Explorer thing. I got a 92 XLT with an A4LD and 3.73 gears. My question is will this tranny hold up to 32" tires as a DD and weekend warrior? All I have ever heard about these trannys is horror stories adn just put a reman tranny in it. Would I need to re gear with 32? If it had a 5speed I wouldnt worry about it. Or should I just stick with 31s?

My A4LD went over 250,000 miles and it was beat HARD...off-roading, brake stands, you name it. I had it rebuilt with the best of everything (shift kit, high performance torque converter, larger cooler, etc. and the 2.9L blew about 5K miles later, heh. That was 6 years ago and I'm still waiting to put a motor in her. Love that '88...

Another thing to consider is that the vehicle is almost 18 years old...that's old, and I would expect problems. Not to be a pessimist or anything, I wish you luck with her!!!
