Wrecked my '01 sport, I ran a red light, i don't recommend it to anyone, soooo... i replaced it with an '05 explorer XLT seems to be pretty loaded, reasonable payments and i can't find anything wrong with it, anything in particular i should look for? It has the 4.6, is this a reliable vehicle? Time will tell....

P.S. i'm happy with my replacement

I just had my 03 Mountaineer totaled in an accident last month. Replaced it with a low mileage 02 explorer. You will like driving the third gen Explorers. Just go heavy on the preventive maintenance like tranny fluid and filter changes every 30-40k miles and 3-4k engine oil changes. Also, start a repair fund for that inevitable repair(s) that will hit you.

As much as I like the driving smoothness and creature comforts of third gens, they aren't nearly as reliable as my old 94 Explorer. It was darn near bullet proof. I made sure to get V-8s in both third gens I have owned. The 4.6L gets the same gas mileage as the V-6 and generally has very few issues if maintained properly.

Unfortunately I know how you feel... other than the Running the red light thing... lol.

I had an 01 Sport... and it was totaled when I was rear ended while I was at a stoplight... Ole boy was going about 60, he hit the car behind me.... they hit me... I hit the car in front of me, and he ricocheted off of me on the drivers side... and then hit a car in oncoming traffic.

I'll post pics of that... lol

OK, yes it was a crash, not an accident, i really just wanted to see how good my insurance was LOL. I hit a suburban needless to say, it bent my frame, i'll post pix later, it was eastbound on 87th and pacific here in omaha, i wasn't paying attention and oops!! My new explorer has 65K on it so, i need to start saving money for all the unexpected things that WILL go wrong huh? Well ok then, i LOVE my '05 it's comfortable, smooth, and has all the room i need. :usa:
