Axle Breather/Vent

I was inspecting my axle tube breather on 2001 Explorer. The breather is made of plastic. The end, which appeared to be a cap or something broke. The rest of the breather is ok. Will it have to be replaced?

You want something on the end. Its just a vent and you don't want it sucking dirt in.

When I extended our breather lines I ran them under the hood and then just grabbed a PCV/valve cover breather/filter thing. I'm using that filter to keep dirt out of the line plus with it extended to under the hood I don't have to worry about water etc getting sucked in when I go through water that is over the axle.

Yes, you can put another end on the hose or put a panel retainer pin in there.
