    You can get a magnet mount, just move it to your hood when wheeling in the woods and then put it back on the roof when your done. Thats what I do.

    Unless the unit is "Peaked" CB radios are only 4 Watts.

    The antenna you choose is just as important as where you mount it. A tuned 2' firestick on top of your vehical will probably work better than a 4' mounted to your bumper. By mounting it on top of the vehical (in the middle) you are increasing the antenna's ground plane.

    Modulation is what gets you talking at distance. A connex board with echo helps to get your voice way out there. A power mic helps as well.

    Consider a talk back speaker so you can clearly hear others talking to/around you.

    Lots of little tweaks and toys you can get as well if you get into it enough.
